When the loss of her first baby became unbearable, Sam went for an unconventional approach

It’s one thing to hear life-changing news from a doctor, but for one woman, that moment came from a very different place. During a difficult phase in her life, she says she learned she was going to have a baby girl — not through a medical test, but from a psychic months earlier. Sam (@mrschaos212) shared the experience in an Instagram reel on April 6, recalling how, after searching for answers she couldn’t find elsewhere, a meeting with a psychic medium in January 2018 changed the way she understood what was happening around her.
Sam was processing a profound loss. 10 weeks earlier, her baby boy had died due to complications in pregnancy, and the loss hit her hard. But soon enough, she realized she was pregnant again from a psychic medium, as she shared in the April 17 report with TODAY. She realized what she thought about having babies was not necessarily true.
“Going through infertility is a constant heartbreak,” she expressed to TODAY, and added, “I just was so lost and so devastated that I was looking for any sign that would give me hope that my husband and I were going to be able to have a baby.” She booked an appointment with the psychic medium, who predicted that her next baby would be a girl.

“She saw a little boy with an older lady who was crocheting a blanket. The older lady wanted me to know that we won’t have any boys. But that our first girl will be ready for us when we find the blanket,” Sam shared. The visual of an old lady crocheting a blanket reminded her of her grandmother, who passed away in 2016. “My dead grandma gave me the best baby gift,” confessed Sam. Her grandma, she recalled, crocheted a blanket for any baby that was born, so the psychic prediction felt “comforting” in her time of need.
On April 8, her 30th birthday, her pregnancy test results turned out to be positive, but since her hormone levels were a little low, the doctor suggested that the pregnancy wasn’t viable. She and her husband kept the news of pregnancy to themselves until April 24, when an almost mystical event unfolded in their life. On this day, Sam was visiting her grandpa and decided to reveal to him, and quietly whispered in his ear that she was pregnant. “The man literally took the secret to his grave,” she thought, as her grandpa died the following day.
Days later, the family members were rummaging through the grandpa’s attic upstairs, shuffling the paperwork and totes to get things for the funeral. By happenstance, one particular tote carried the evidence of the key that the psychic medium had revealed to her. Inside the tote lay a perfectly folded crocheted blanket in pink. The pink blanket left the family members present there shocked and still.

When, at last, she gathered the wit to reveal it to her dad, he told her that it was a “beautiful example of circle of life.” In December 2018, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, confirming the psychic’s prediction. Moments like these often come during periods of deep uncertainty. Research published in PLOS ONE shows that when people feel a loss of control, they are more likely to believe in psychic or predictive experiences, partly because those beliefs can help restore a sense of stability during difficult times. As for Sam, the evidence is spread over the timeline of her whole life. Just as the psychic predicted, she didn’t have a boy in the next two pregnancies either.

The story resonated with many people who shared their own experiences. @angela.beck 3 said, "I just want to tell you, my great-grandmother crocheted my brother and me with the same exact pattern." @sherseestheworld shared, "We did infertility treatments for 15 months leading up to my grandpa's death… I took a (medication lol) shot at his funeral in the bathroom and whispered to him, 'Please make this work.' I had twins. I named one after him :)"
