Everyone has baggage and history, and in some cases, ignoring the past isn't the right choice. Elizabeth Suzanne (@50yearsofslay) found out through a friend that her ex-husband was engaged. The friend even met the fiancée, but the latter got snarky when the friend said she knew both his ex-wives. Suzanne decided to look the fiancé up online and realized she couldn't be a girl's girl. The post was shared on October 26, 2026, and it had over 3,000 likes and 120 comments.

Dragged her down

Elizabeth Suzanne's friend was telling her about her ex-husband's new fiancée. While hanging out with her, the fiancée told Suzanne's friend that he was "a sweet man who cooks the best food and is so amazing." When the friend mentioned she knew the two ex-wives, the fiancée responded, "He was never actually married to the first one." While she was right, Suzanne wrote, "She could’ve said anything. Instead, she shut my friend down with that ridiculous statement." Suzanne also discovered the fiancée had just inherited a business and a big piece of land, which turned the gears in her head.

This bit of information made Suzanne reflect on her own life with her ex-husband. She wrote, "When I met him, I had my own house (rented, but it was mine), a new car, a 700 credit score, and a $40k/yr job." Things drastically changed when they got divorced. Even though she still had her car, her credit went down to 540, and two of her businesses closed down. One closed due to COVID, but the other shut down because of her ex-husband's temper tantrum.

Preparing for her downfall

Suzanne added that her ex-husband owed her $43,000, including interest. Even though she felt bad for the fiancée, she wanted her money back. She knew that her ex-husband had not been transparent about his debt with his fiancée, so she wrote, "While the girl’s girl inside of me feels bad, she had a chance to ask questions but chose to give snark instead. So I hope that after their assets are all fully entwined, she enjoys paying me my money, losing her business, watching her credit score take a nosedive, and whatever other fresh hell he brings to her."

Expensive dealbreaker

Financial honesty can matter heavily in romantic relationships. A NerdWallet survey conducted by The Harris Poll from December 2- 4, 2025, among 2,095 U.S. adults found that 54% considered a partner being dishonest about their financial situation a relationship dealbreaker. At the same time, 50% of respondents who were currently in relationships admitted they had lied about or withheld some financial information from their partner. NerdWallet credit card expert Sara Rathner said, "Long-term, a relationship isn’t going to survive on love alone. When you’re combining your lives, how you handle money issues becomes really important." Suzanne knew for a fact that her ex-husband had not told his fiancée that he owed her $43,000 and was waiting to collect after the two got married.

'Give her grace'

Netizens called out Suzanne's ex-husband in the comment section. But some suggested Suzanne come clean about his deception to the fiancée. @candaceplz commented, "I’ve seen this episode before on Netflix Worst Ex’s, I’m pretty sure. He sounds like an entire problem." @kazwellian wrote, "Give her some grace, you fell for his schtick once too. Tell her."
