When a random message pops up on a person's screen from an unknown sender, asking about their relationship status, the immediate response is usually one of confusion, suspicion, or brushing it off as spam. The latter was a woman's (u/Less_Promise7808) choice, who received a text from an unknown woman asking if she was dating her boyfriend. But soon, she realized that her assumption was wrong, as the other woman sent her pictures of her boyfriend with her and screenshots of their messages. What unfolded next was completely unexpected, as she later revealed the entire incident on Reddit on August 13, 2026, attracting a lot of views and 5,300 upvotes.

'Every new detail made it worse'

What started as an unexpected ping for this woman turned out to be the final straw in her relationship. While she initially expected the text to be fake, the stranger caught her off guard by sending pictures of her boyfriend with her, as well as their conversations. This made the reality undeniable. But it left the woman with a lot of doubts in her mind, which weren't resolved until both women began cross-referencing their conversations with this man. "Every new detail made it worse," the woman said. They soon discovered the man's double life, which comprised "the same excuses, the same little lies, even some of the same compliments."

'The other girl was actually really sweet'

To make matters worse, the other woman revealed that the man had told her she was an ex who couldn't move on. But the truth was starkly different. This completely shattered the woman, leaving her overwhelmed and confused. So much so that she canceled all her plans. Fortunately, a close friend stepped in and refused to let her spiral while sitting at home. So, she went out with her for dinner. Meanwhile, she continued to text back and forth with this woman. Both of them had formed an unexpected bond. "The other girl was actually really sweet," she noted. But this made the betrayal even worse.

Coping with the heartbreak

Nonetheless, neither of them knew the extent to which this man had lied to them. And so, they were furious and came to a simple conclusion. "Long story short, we both blocked him," the woman revealed. Although it was for the best, that didn't stop her from struggling to comprehend how someone could do this to a person. However, even beyond this, she was really devastated to lose a relationship that she thought was genuine. Unfortunately, what happened with this woman has become too common in modern society.

People cheat now more than ever

Even more so within the United States. According to a YouGov survey, 33% of people who have been in a monogamous relationship report cheating on their partners. This includes either emotional and physical cheating or both. This number climbs to 54% when talking about people who have experienced cheating while in a monogamous relationship. Additionally, the study reveals that 75% of the people who have been cheated on ended their relationship with their partner because of it. This isn't much of a surprise given the sheer number of stories we come across every day.

Regardless, the people were happy that this woman was saved from a situation that could've escalated much further. u/Small-Jellyfish-1776 commented, "It’s a blessing when the other woman reaches out. Delicious food and you’ll make it through." Meanwhile, u/astralwish1 suggested, "I’m so sorry. At least the other girl was kind about it and didn’t blame you. I’d keep the screenshots and pictures in case he tries to message you and to warn any other girls he tries this on."
