Over the years, countless people have turned to the internet to share their experiences of being mistreated at work. This includes several pregnant women whose insensitive bosses have ignored their health conditions and made them prioritize work. A woman named Jennifer Gonzalez—who goes by @itsjennygonzalez on TikTok—sparked outrage online when she revealed the bizarre message she received from her boss as she went into labor during her time as a teacher at a daycare center. Gonzalez's boss left her a voicemail, asking her to do something impossible during her emergency.

Gonzalez uploaded the voicemail to TikTok, where it garnered over 1.2 million views. In the voicemail, her boss, Jamie, called the pregnant mom to ask if there was any chance she could come into work. At the start of the message, Gonzalez’s boss congratulated her on bringing a child into the world. "Throwback to when I called into work because I was in labor and my boss called to say she was excited," read the overlay text on her video, implying that the boss had a different motive behind sending the voicemail.

"Hey, Jennifer, it's Jamie. I just got your voicemail and saw your text. It's kind of exciting!" Jamie said, referring to the news that Gonzalez was going into labor. "Hopefully, you are doing okay, and the baby is going to make his or her grand entrance and put you out of your misery so you're not suffering," Jamie continued. "Let me know how things are going and let me know what your doctor says." At that point, Gonzalez started to sense that her boss's call was taking an unexpected turn.

Jamie went from expressing concern and offering congratulations to asking whether Gonzalez could make it to work despite having frequent contractions. "If at all you can work today and contractions like, stop and you feel okay. Let me know because I can definitely use your help. If not, I understand. I've been there, but just keep me posted, okay? We're all very excited, so let me know," Jamie told Gonzalez. In the caption of her video, Gonzalez summed up her thoughts: "Workplaces like this aren't worth it."

The comment section of her video was filled with responses condemning the boss's audacity. @mitzybot commented, "I would have just quit. I never recommend a two-week notice." @jennyinlov3 wrote, "Reminds me of my previous job asking me to reschedule my wedding when it was the upcoming week." @rrromesaa remarked, "Unbelievable! Such a stark reminder that, no matter the situation, you could be on your deathbed and they'd still ask if you could work. To them, you're just a number—nothing more." @_hellogoregeous_ added, "And this is a prime example of why we should not dedicate our lives to our employer because they do not care about us! So glad you left and I hope you and the baby are well now."
