'If this isn't girls supporting girls, I don't know what is...'
A woman going through a difficult financial phase was worried about using "rags" for her menstrual cycle. And when a kind cashier saw her in a dilemma, she immediately stepped in, lightening her load. The beautiful story, celebrating the sacred thread of sisterhood, was posted on the r/twoxchromosomes subreddit.
The woman was at the billing counter, buying sanitary pads, but, sadly, her card declined due to insufficient balance. Calling it an "act of sorority," she explained how a sweet cashier approached her, saying, "I got you covered, honey! Take them home!" The woman was deeply moved by the cashier's generous gesture and made a silent promise to herself to gift her something nice whenever she was in a better position financially. "People like her are angels on earth and deserve to have their gestures returned. Thank you for the wave of emotional support. You're all beings full of light! I'll make sure to pay forward my cashier's selfless action," the woman wrote.
Card declined on mentrual pads, cashier let me keep them. I was extremely moved by her kindness.

Let's just say the woman was lucky to find someone so kind who helped her during such a vulnerable situation. But unlike her, millions of girls spend their lives in what they say is "period poverty." Well, countless women all across the world are still struggling to buy sanitary pads and access basic sanitation facilities during their menstrual cycles. According to UN Women, a major reason for menstrual products being so expensive is regressive rules like the "pink tax," where women's items such as pads and tampons are subjected to higher taxes. Now, this happens partly because of the period-related taboos that unfortunately are still relevant in today's modern century.
Meanwhile, the Reddit post received an overwhelming response on social media, with some sharing their own experiences. For instance, someone, u/9shadowcat9, commented, "A cashier once did this for me. I was around 15, and my family was struggling with money. I was around a pound short for some pads, and I was searching everywhere for the necessary change when she told me it was fine. She even made a small joke about how it happened to all women at least once. I don’t think I can put into words how much I appreciated her kindness that day."
Similarly, u/wooshcloud shared, "I am so glad the cashier did that. I work at a grocery store, and a girl had her card decline on her tampons and a chocolate bar. I was probably a little more biased here, as I was also on my period lol, but I told her to just take it; she almost cried." Echoing the sentiments, another user, u/easytangerin, on the platform, said, "If this isn't girls supporting girls, I don't know what is. I hope, no, pray that all females should have an opportunity like that and help another female out because they get it! u/felicityhuffman commented, "Oh, this story is simply lovely, and reading all these comments is just even more lovely. Women lifting other women up (in whatever way) is a beautiful and graceful thing, and I’m so happy you shared this story and spread even more love. You go, girl!"
