His question left the woman wondering why he couldn't mind his own business
For most people, it feels good to encounter a stranger while traveling and initiate a wholesome interaction. The problem arises when the stranger turns out to be entitled, so the interaction becomes a psychological violation and an intrusion. In a February 17, 2026, post on Instagram Threads, Shon Chase (@chasey_) shared an incident in which she encountered a stranger who left her befuddled with questions, doubts, and much to contemplate. This man had accidentally occupied Chase’s seat, and when she asked him to shift, he responded with a cross-question that left her thoughts screeching and prompted a flight attendant to weigh in on the debate.
A pestering encounter
It was the morning of February 17 when Chase boarded the flight. A man was sitting in her seat, so she asked him to move. He did so without saying anything, but then he asked a question. “You had 3A?” When she answered "Yes," he said, "Well, in case you book this again, the aisle is 3A, and that is 3B.” She insisted that she was right, but he kept on arguing.
Entitled to nothing
The woman was bamboozled, so when the flight attendant arrived to ask for beverages, she asked her to confirm the seat number. Chase proved to be right, but the man kept on pestering her. He tapped on her and apologized, but Chase’s head was already spinning in circles. “It’s too early for these entitled antics, as if I can’t read and you’re doing me a favor,” she shared her thoughts on that moment. She didn’t want to argue with someone who knew he was wrong, especially when she was feeling sleepy. His question made her feel as if she were naïve about flying in airplanes or unaware of the seat numbers. She detached herself from the tussle and simply shared the story on her social media.
This is mansplaining
In terms of psychology, the man’s behavior in Chase’s case could be referred to by the term “mansplaining,” a phenomenon of men condescendingly explaining things to women on subjects they already understand. Studies have revealed that this is a widespread form of gendered mistreatment. Up to 56% to 83% of women experience this behavior in their lives, according to a survey of 2,000 women, reported by Forbes.
Not everyone in first class is 'classy'
In the comments to Chase’s post, people defended her side, adding that the man obviously knew what he was doing. @hooper1202 said, “This kind of thing happens in rows 27-31. Not in 3. Dude knew what he was doing.” @ovaqualified echoed, “He thought he knew, but he didn’t, and then didn’t want to admit it. Everybody in first class doesn’t have class.”
