She decided to highlight her mother's beauty before she began her cancer treatments for stage 3 ovarian cancer.
For many women, hair reflects their personality and gives them confidence. However, some women find themselves having to take medications or undergo treatments like chemotherapy that force them to lose their hair. It often takes a lot for women to let go of their hair, especially with the added burden of an illness, so it’s natural for people to want to help them and support them through the process. A hairdresser is often around to provide this support for various customers. However, one hairdresser, Jenna Duncan had the painstaking opportunity to give her mom a makeover one last time before her chemotherapy.
She posted a video on Instagram sharing her mom’s story and how she did her best to give her mom the look she desired.“This is my mom’s last hair appointment before chemo,” Duncan wrote in her video while she hugged and comforted her mother. Bereaved, she revealed the story saying, “My mom was diagnosed with stage 3 ovarian cancer.” At a loss for words and holding tears in, she added, “She’s taking it okay. We decided that before she starts chemo and possibly loses all of her hair, we’ll do her dream hair.” Duncan then shared that her mom was “mesmerized” by the rainbow hair she was popularly known for doing. However, her mom had been skeptical about coloring her hair so boldly as she was hunting for a job.
“When we found out my mom had cancer, I knew one of the hardest parts for her would be shaving her hair off,” Duncan wrote. She asked her mom whether she’d like to start off her journey of “kicking cancer’s butt” by doing rainbow hair and her mom was more than happy. “I’m so happy that I was able to make her dream a reality as she has been doing for me,” Duncan added. The rest of the video captured the woman doing her mom’s hair. Towards the end of the look, her sporty mother exclaimed, “Sh*t!” Duncan says, “Yeah, isn’t that cool?”
Her mom was immediately brought to tears having been able to get her dream hair and pull it off amazingly. “My Mom is the most amazing, strong and powerful woman I have ever met. If anyone deserves recognition, it’s her!!! She is my rock, my support system, and I wouldn't be in this industry if it weren’t for her,” Duncan mentioned in her caption. She added an update later on her mom’s journey. “She has been fighting so hard. She is on her 3rd round of chemo this week, and hopefully her last,” Duncan said.

She added that her mom is showing signs of recovery and has been a “rockstar. We did have to shave her head a few weeks ago, but she is rocking her new wigs thanks to all of you!!” Duncan remarked. Apart from praying and hoping for her recovery, many people commented with overwhelming support. @lynadidit said, “Sending all of my healing energy her way!!! Such beautiful hair for a beautiful woman!” @heart_tickertaylor said, “I was tearing up the entire time watching this. She looks amazing! Sending all the healing vibes to her!”
