Aging is a natural process but often it is stigmatized when it comes to beauty standards for women. They are expected to delay the signs of aging and get cosmetic procedures done to mask it as they age. A 37-year-old TikTok user dealing with aging revealed her experiences in a video that evidently struck a chord with many ladies. Natalie Thomas, a marketing professional from Austin, Texas, says she's had issues with her image for the "last year or so."

She said in the video, "I want to share my experience with aging. I’m 37 now, I’m going to be 38 in a week." She described it as a "weird phenomenon that happens where you don't recognize yourself," rather than "much of a shallow thing." She said, "And in the last year or so I’ve really struggled with my appearance, and it’s not so much of like a shallow thing, not wanting to look old… but it’s not even that I’m like upset about a wrinkle or a blemish or a pigmentation."

"It’s this just really weird phenomenon that happens where you don’t recognize yourself, and you’re trying to look like you always have and not in an age way, but just in a recognizing yourself," she added. Natalie explained that her makeup routine no longer seems like it is working for her. She said, "So I’ll do my eyebrows and I’m like, ‘Well that didn’t do it. Okay maybe I just need more concealer,’ and then that doesn’t do it. And then you realize you’ve lost volume in your face."

"I guess plastic surgery or like augmentation injections can maybe fix, but it’s just odd to seek yourself in the mirror or on camera and not be able to find it, and having to become okay with this new person," she added. "Like I swear it’s just like one day you’re like, ‘Oh, I look like this,’ and then you wake up and you’re like, ‘Oh, I don’t like that, I look older and more tired'." Many women could sympathize and they shared their own stories. "It really hits me when my phone shows me old pics. I think I look fine and then I see old pics and I’m like, damn. That’s gone," @blairsingshere commented.

TikTok user @makeupbecca said, "I’m going [through] this too. It’s almost not about aging. But more like mourning my youth. The chapter's closed and I didn’t even see it happen." @_s_m_84_ said, "38 and I struggle with this but I try and remind myself aging is a privilege that many people don’t get to experience." Another woman @recruiterfriend noted, "I’m 38 and I feel like the pandemic has aged me 10 years I swear to god." Natalie replied to this comment by saying, "I was just about to say, 2020 did a number on us mentally and I’m sure that didn’t do us any favors physically."

A TikTok user @fahrmaiden had some advice for everyone, "54 years old. My best advice is 'enjoy the now, your skin and face and body are as young as it will ever be again'."
