Woman garners support when assisted living facility charges her $35 an hour to visit her elderly mom

Many elderly parents wish to spend their old age closer to their children but because of some unfavorable circumstances, they have to live in assisted living facilities. Even in such cases, children want to be there and take care of their parents to the best of their ability. However, some unexpected challenges may arise, making it difficult to even visit the elderly people. One such problem was faced by a daughter when she wanted to visit her 90-year-old mother who was living in an assisted living facility in Ohio. The elderly woman's granddaughter Chloe @chloesellslosangeles posted this issue on TikTok where her mother explained the situation. The video went viral and people united in support to rally around the family.

Chloe's mom started by saying, "35 dollars an hour. That's what I had to pay to see my 90-year-old mother in an assisted living facility in Ohio." She was seemingly upset by the unreasonable fee that she had to pay for just a short time with her own mother. Also, she pointed out that the facility would only allow her to visit her mother when she had prepaid the amount and did not accept on-the-spot payments. This was unfair because the facility charged a visitation fee on top of a huge monthly rent that the daughter had to pay. "The estate guardian is charging her $8,000 a month rent," said Chloe's mom and added, "My sister, brother and I are prohibited from taking her anywhere."

Apart from tormenting the visitors with a huge fee, the facility was also restricting the freedom of the elderly people living there. "She doesn't want to be there and wants to live with my sister," mentioned Chloe's mom. The 90-year-old couldn't live with her daughter because of the lack of a downstairs bathroom in their place and also it was not financially feasible for the daughter. Chloe then said, "We are also in need of legal representation to secure my grandmother's release from this facility." But even resorting to legal actions might cost a fortune and Chloe and her mom found it financially challenging.

Chloe finally told the viewers, "Please reach out with any available resources as we're in crucial need of support." She also mentioned in the caption their contact number so that someone who could get them out of this misery could reach them. "The facility is in Copley, Ohio Summit County," she wrote. This video gained over 152K views in a week and many echoed the message by the family by resharing the post. The comments section was full of supportive words and some even suggested ways for Chloe and her mom to resolve this issue. 

"Oh my God. Until I could get that bathroom I would rent an apartment and move there temporarily with her and have family take turns staying with her. I would seek the help of the county along the way," commented @saraina2001. "This happened with my nana. I’m so sorry. Her conservator charged my nana $75 an hour here in California," wrote @grammychristy. When @cleaninglady79 pointed out, "So sorry to hear that. I got guardianship over my grandmother and I did not hire an attorney. It wasn’t that hard to win the case in court," @gevonnafassett implied that it wasn't easy for everyone saying, "I'm sure in your case the guardianship case was uncontested. Otherwise, they are anything but simple, and they're expensive."
