She believed boyfriend’s elaborate explanation for ‘Sophie’ in his phone — until his forgotten Apple Watch revealed messages to up to 20 women
Christina Podolyan trusted her boyfriend completely until she saw his overlooked digital trail
Trust is the bedrock of any healthy relationship, and when a person loves someone, they give them the benefit of the doubt rather than looking for cracks. This was certainly the case for Christina Podolyan (@christinapodolyan), who chose to believe her boyfriend's explanation after her friend caught him swapping numbers at a club with a woman named Sophie. He swore that the woman had entered her own information aggressively, easing her off. But that relief didn't last long when Podolyan noticed something shocking on her boyfriend's Apple Watch after it had accidentally slipped. She revealed the entire story on TikTok on December 17, 2024, garnering more than 20,500 likes.

A routine shift away
Working irregular rosters as a flight attendant, Podolyan was accustomed to traveling on short notice. She was often called away for several days at a time. So, she maintained full confidence in her partner. That's why, during one particular trip, when her boyfriend told her he was attending a family member's birthday gathering and checked with her throughout the evening, she felt right at home. Everything seemed typical until she finished her shift at 3:00 a.m. That is when she received a phone call from one of her close friends.
Getting caught and covering up
They told Podolyan that they spotted her boyfriend at the club with another woman and even saw him exchange numbers. "There's no way," Podolyan said, in shock. She trusted him completely, so she decided to wait until the next morning to check in with him. When confronted, he deflected the accusation, claiming the woman grabbed his phone and entered her own details to avoid a scene.
He even drove over to show her the entry, pointing out that the name Sophie was surrounded by hundreds of p*op emojis. "Like, of course, I'm not gonna call her," he promised Podolyan. He agreed to even delete the contact to avoid any further misunderstandings. Everything seemed settled until a few days later, when the man accidentally dropped his Apple Watch at Podolyan's apartment.
An overlooked digital trail
Driven by sudden intuition, Podolyan decided to check the watch. "There is no other reason your gut would scream at you to do something, because you know you are going to find something," she noted. When she unlocked the device, her "heart sank" when she saw the message inbox and found exchanges with not just one but at least 10 to 20 other women, many disguised as work profiles. As it turns out, the man had forgotten that even if you delete messages from an iPhone, they remain on an Apple Watch until you clear them.
Podolyan also discovered the same woman from the club in these messages. He had saved her number under another alias, like Bob. "Can I come over to see you tonight?" read one of his messages to the woman. She was hesitant to meet him because of his relationship status. So, he even went as far as telling her that he had broken up with Podolyan. Following this massive revelation, she parted ways with the man, and rightfully so.
Snooping partner's devices
Going through a significant other's devices is something a lot of adults across the United States do. In fact, according to a Pew Research survey, 34% of Americans report having gone through their partner's devices at least once without their knowledge. Of these people, women are more likely to do this, with 42% attesting to snooping through their partner's phone in comparison to just 25% of men confirming the same. Although it's not morally ethical for most, it's what led Podolyan to the truth.
'Need to get my boyfriend an Apple watch'
As for the people, they were lauding the Apple Watch for helping Podolyan uncover her boyfriend's double life. @1300flow noted, "So I need to get my bf an Apple Watch for Christmas." Meanwhile, @taylajaynee07 detailed her own experience: "My ex never posted me either, and I never clicked as to why he never wanted to post me until I saw his iPad left on the couch and caught his messages."
