A lady noticed a bouquet lying on a bench near Putrajaya Lake in Malaysia. Curious, she took a few steps towards it, only to find a letter placed just beside a gold ring. Barely a couple of words in, she sensed the letter reflected deep heartbreak wrapped in the quiet agony of being unloved. The woman who goes by @frshadilaa (on Threads) posted the story on April 12.

Going by the letter, a woman, most likely in a relationship with Ariff, stayed put by the lake, waiting for her lover. But when he did not turn up, she decided to leave the bouquet along with a letter, hoping it would reach him somehow. In her letter, she told Ariff that she knew he wouldn't come to meet her, even though she really wanted to. "How would you [come] if my messages are in your archive?" the woman asked.

She accepted that Ariff, her lover, had already moved on from her and that she was the only one stuck in their relationship. "This separation hurts; the way you forgot about me hurts, but that's the reality," she confessed. Despite the heartbreak, the woman finally decided to free Ariff from her story. She said she is letting him go, not because she loves him any less, but because she realized he doesn't want her anymore.

"I wish [you] happiness, and may you get the love that you deserve," the woman wrote, offering her best wishes. Moving on, she wished she had enough courage to face the unimaginable anguish. "It feels like hell, Ariff... like someone pulled my heart out of my chest, but it is okay," she added. In the end, the woman admitted that she would leave happily if that guaranteed his happiness. "I will always love you, Ariff — always," she said.

A day after the lady shared the letter online, the letter's writer reached out to her on social media. She clarified that Ariff is a good man who loved and respected her throughout. Moreover, the woman explained that her estranged boyfriend once took an almost 1-hour drive to console her after the breakup. In fact, she said she believes Ariff broke off only because he realized he couldn't give enough to their relationship. "He thinks it's better to let me go just so I can find a better man," she shared

Breakups can be hard. In fact, sometimes it gets so stressful that people rely on therapists after a hard separation. For instance, a survey of 1,846 people with an average age of about 31 years old found that 75% of them had to attend psychotherapy after a breakup. Similarly, another study found that 26.8% of people who've gone through a recent breakup showed mild to severe depression symptoms.

Meanwhile, reacting to the letter, @bellaapeach commented, "I have been there, done that. It hurts, but it gets better. To the one who wrote the notes, please take care of yourself, and please promise yourself to get better. You will be better; someday, you will look back on these days that broke you and thank yourself for being strong, for holding all the pain strongly, and for deciding to give love back to yourself. Please start being kind to yourself from now on. Similarly, @puckeroos wrote, "Yep, waiting is the worst, and it's worse knowing that no one's going to show up, just clinging on to that tiny bit of hope left inside, wishing that person would just appear."
