Most people hope their relationships will last a lifetime, but few actually get to spend nearly every day with their partner. A video shared by Alana Bergner, who goes by @ab51612123 on TikTok, captured a similar moment between her grandparents, who had shared a life together till the very end. It showed her grandmother saying her final goodbye to her husband after 66 years together. What she wasn't prepared for was the tenderness and love with which they said their final goodbyes. The video shows them expressing a deep affection in every gentle touch and glance. For a moment, their love almost felt tangible. Bergner knew she was capturing a deeply profound moment of their family.

While speaking to Good Morning America, the granddaughter explained what compelled her to film it. "I started recording because I felt like in that moment, I was capturing one of the most profound moments in their entire lives together in their 66 years. It was very clear to me that he appreciated that. Those were very likely going to be his last moments with the love of his life," Bergner said. She further gave a brief glimpse into their love story, which began shortly after World War II. "My grandmother is from Northern Ireland and my grandfather was in the Navy. So they met by chance at a dance hall in Northern Ireland. He just caught sight of her and couldn't get enough of her," she explained.

Within weeks, he told her he wanted to marry her as he was about to leave. She packed her entire life and moved to Kansas to be with him. "I asked her how she felt when she got there. She said, 'I thought I died and went to hell,'" Bergner added. "She really sacrificed a lot to be there and be with him," she said. But her love never wavered. "I think my grandparents' love story is illustrative of a love that is exceedingly rare these days. She loved him when they had nothing. She loved him when they were a lot more comfortable. Their closeness was really an everyday thing," Bergner explained.

Even in their final years, the pair were inseparable. Bergner described that "at one point, they were in wheelchairs together and had to be wheeled everywhere." She said, "They couldn’t get enough of each other, even in the end, even if it was just sitting in chairs next to each other, reading a book and doing a crossword puzzle." She also mentioned that sharing the video of her grandparents saying goodbye was a way for her to give people a sense of hope for "partnerships in their life" and to make them realize "that you can work through things, and love really can outlast."

The video touched many people, as they flooded the comments with emotions and reflections of their own. @kortlynn558 wrote, "I wonder how many times they forgave each other to get this far." @vanessa_xx added, "I hope they find each other in every lifetime." @kaeciad shared, "How do you even begin to say goodbye to the person you’ve been side by side with every single day for 66 years?" @brandiwilliams02 noted, "The way I will crawl into bed with my husband just to be held one last time! Heartbreaking." @jenniferkarl5 joked, "Jokes on you. I was already planning on crying tonight."
