That is why compliments and acknowledgment are crucial factors in the development of an individual. It has a positive impact on their growth. She began the video by saying that she had just gotten out of the gym and had an experience with a fellow gymnast. She mentioned that she had been working out for over two years and said, “There are a lot of things that go through your head being a bigger woman.” She further explained that as she was walking out, one of the men from the gym called out to her. She thought he’d ridicule her for her appearance. Instead, he said, “I’ve seen you here every week and I’m proud of you.” As she was saying this in her video, she got teary, feeling immense gratitude for being recognized and acknowledged.

She had been working hard for a long time and big girls like her, as she mentioned, it is a struggle physically and mentally to put yourself out there and go on each day. And somewhere that man recognized her efforts and appreciated it and it made her day. When someone tells you, “I'm proud of you,” it rekindles a spark and gives a boost to your purpose all along.

The comments flooded in for the woman and the mystery guy who gave her a strength that she would carry with her for a lifetime. @MattyIce said, “No one knows the struggles. You’re doing the dang thing and that takes courage and strength. You. Keep. Going. I’m proud of you!” @EricRoberts said, “Girl you are crushing it. That man you encounter is what real men do. Support. Be human. It isn’t hard!”

Another fitness freak, Joey Swoll—who goes by @thejoeyswoll on TikTok—reposted her video explaining the power of “I’m proud of you.” He said, “‘I’m proud of you.’ Four words take two seconds that can make your day, your week, your month and even your year.”

He went on to say that these words hold so much power that they can “extinguish the hate of a lifetime that can leave someone crippled with insecurity and self-doubt.” He further thanked the woman for sharing what he called an “inspiration” to others. He added, “This is true gym culture. This is more of what we need.”

It takes time and understanding to spot the one positive thing in someone and appreciate them for it. And that holds more value than a lifetime of negativity. Several users commented on Swoll’s perspective of the statement. @steph5468 replied saying, “Thank you so much! You all are so kind. And I’m grateful for the encouragement and kindness.” @adriburn said, “So glad that she had that moment and so glad that man did that for her.”

Think of the time you have had an “‘I’m proud of you” moment. It may have not been the exact words, it may have been just a smile or even a glance but deep within you knew. Try it out, the next time you find something negative that may bring down a person, try to replace it by looking for something positive. If you have criticism to give, try to restructure it more positively and see the difference you make!
