Engaging in hobbies has a truly transformative impact on people. Beyond just being a leisure activity, hobbies foster personal growth, cultivate new skills and aid in overall well-being. From the smallest and most inexpensive hobbies to the more time-consuming, expensive ones, they all have different kinds of meaningful impacts on individuals. Vera Pebbles—who goes by @vera.pebbles on Instagram—shared a video two weeks ago highlighting how hobbies had changed her as a person.

She starts the video by saying, "Over the years, I've accumulated many hobbies and when I think about it, they actually changed my life." Pebbles then goes into the various hobbies she has indulged in over the years. She shares how she has made an effort to stitch her own clothes, play the flute, do some embroidery work, read a lot of books, paint, climb and most recently began making films. The influencer states how, with each hobby, she thought it would be the final one she would get into.

In fact, she even thought that some of these hobbies would turn out to be something that she could make a career out of. She hilariously points out how such a mindset was very capitalistic of her. Even though she had a burning passion for most of these hobbies, majority of them ended up fizzling out as her interests changed. This lack of clarity led to some self-doubt about her own capabilities.

Pebbles chose to conclude the video on an optimistic note. She says, "All these hobbies—they've changed my life in ways I've never thought they would." People found the woman's take on hobbies interesting and chimed in with their thoughts in the comments section. @evins_vids said, "Totally relate. Honestly, I am trying not to turn hobbies into work now. It immediately steals the enjoyment out of it. It's frustrating that we feel so inclined to capitalize on everything."

Hobbies can really turn a person's life around, especially in their 20s. Erin Confortini—who goes by @itserinconfortini on TikTok—shared a video about how hobbies could aid young people in achieving their financial goals. According to Confortini, having a hobby means that young people are focused on a set goal, which prevents them from spending money on unnecessary things that they do not need.

To support her analysis, she shares her own experience. She had a free Saturday with no other big plans and decided to go to the mall alone. Instead of feeling happy, she wound up feeling agitated throughout and returned without buying anything. It need not be the same for others, as many often feel obligated to spend money on something when they enter a mall. Thus begins a vicious cycle where people cannot reach fulfillment and end up making poor financial choices.

The influencer advocates that people should ditch this horrible mindset for their own good. She states how people impulsively buy things that they don't really need. She says, "If you're overspending, it might be because you have time to spend the money. You don't know what else to do with your free time." Therefore, having a hobby can save people money while also keeping them happy and engaged.
