Many didn't quite understand that the comedian was just doing what comedians do and it led to her hilarious news debut.
Social media is a tricky place to be and one must be wary of the content one posts and engages with. Stand-up comedian Madi Hart (@madihart_soccer) shared her story on TikTok of how one of her previous videos on the platform not only went viral but also got her on the news for quite bizarre reasons. Hart had shared the experience she had on a date with a man in the said video and the statements she used as a joke were interpreted differently, causing the woman to have quite a journey on social media over the past few weeks. In the video, Hart spoke about how she had an unusual experience on a date in LA, where she lives, as an independent woman.
“Guys I went on a date this week and I felt the feminism leave my body,” Hart said. She continued to explain that having lived in LA, she wasn’t used to the experience she had. “There’s always a negotiation about who’s going to pay,” the woman said. While she didn’t mind splitting the pay or even paying in general, her recent experience surprised her. “What I will say is I fell into going on a date with the most guy’s guy,” Hart said. She elaborated, saying, “The thing about a guy’s guy is that he puts his card down, he’s paying for everything.” Hart wasn’t able to control the excitement as she spoke. She said that it did make her feel different.
As she continued speaking about her date night, she mentioned how the guy paid for everything, even handing over his credit card to her to pay for the required drinks and other items. From her actions, it pretty much seemed like the woman was head over heels for the guy. However, her initial statements, which she intended to add for humor, were a catch to the public. They couldn't comprehend it and took it differently. In a follow-up video, the woman shared that her video was picked up by FOX News after they failed to realize it was a joke and there was a complete analysis and discussion done over her statements.
The woman spoke about how she was called out on a podcast and by several others for her statement before she drew attention to the fact that she was on the news. “This is honestly the most iconic and funny thing that’s happened to me,” Hart said. She then gave a recap of her previous video and said that FOX News even called a dating analyst to figure things out.
“It was a joke! It was hyperbolic,” Hart clarified. The woman, maintaining the comedy bugs within her, added, “Everybody didn’t realize that obviously I was kidding. Obviously, feminism didn’t actually leave my body… Unless you want to buy me a drink. No… Stop, I’m kidding!” Hart further shared screenshots of the various websites that covered her story and seemed least bothered by the misinterpretation on their end. However, she did clarify that it was purely a joke and she was just being sarcastic. Commenters were on board with Hart and cheered for her. @heartilyhannah said, “Apparently the joke did not land with them, but that somehow made it even better?” @punksister remarked that Hart would now get famous by saying, “In a weird way, you've earned your blue check.”
