'It was partially buried but I saw the shimmer of the diamonds from the sun above.'
A wedding ring is an important symbol and a prized possession for married couples. A woman named Sarah Maune (@sarahkraffty) was worried when she lost her wedding band while snorkeling with her son in Florida, per PEOPLE. Fortunately, she was aware and figured out pretty soon that she’d lost her ring, immediately setting out to find it. Sharing in her TikTok video, she chose not to reveal to her husband, Joel, that she had lost a crucial symbol of their marriage. The internet journeyed with her as she dove into the waters, looking for it, and the result was impressive.
According to Jewelers Mutual, 91% of people wear their engagement rings while traveling, making them vulnerable to loss. 25% of engagement rings have been lost in the waters of the oceans. The woman initially noticed that she had her wedding ring on when she went snorkeling with her son. Having received it from her husband with much love and effort, she knew she would take care of it. Unfortunately, soon after the adventure, she realized that the ring was no longer on her finger. “It’s a halo diamond with diamonds down the sides of the band in white gold. It means everything to me,” Maune remarked.
Sharing in her vlog, Maune said she was positive about finding the ring as she realized her loss on time, and that the weather was pretty pleasant. The waves, too, were calm, and being closer to the shore, there was more hope of finding it. Maune mentioned that another person had lost their keys in the water the previous day and managed to find them, so she was positive she’d find her ring too. “I tried not to panic. I’ve had friends lose their rings at work at the hospital while taking off gloves and I know panicking only makes it worse. So I stayed calm and started searching,” she recalled.
However, at the end of the day, it was a tiny ring in the ocean. It seemed like she needed a miracle to be able to find it again. With the fear of sharks being around and having had a bad eye, Maune decided to focus on the positives and search as best as possible. By herself, out in the waters, after nearly 10 minutes of not finding the ring, she was starting to get worried, but kept her hopes high. Maune recalled seeing sharks around, but the ring meant everything to her, so she kept going, throwing caution to the wind. "Emotionally, I was bumming hard. I know how sentimental the ring is and I want my children to have it one day. Physically, I was exhausted from swimming that much,” she noted.
In another video, Maune set out again after a while to look for the ring. Taking breathing breaks and going back into the water, after covering half of the distance, she finally spotted something glittering in the waves. “It was partially buried but I saw the shimmer of the diamonds from the sun above,” the woman recalled. She excitedly took it and put it back on her finger. “At first I thought, 'That can’t be it.’ Then while I swam down and moved some of the sand off it, I was completely shocked,” she said. People are in awe of the woman’s determination and keen observation to have been able to find her ring. @yourboypauly said, “One in a million chance. I sure thought that thing was gone.” @shorty0203 added, “That’s the luckiest, craziest thing ever.”
