A man who plans is almost everyone's dream guy. But for a woman who goes by @biggirlkel on Threads, the elaborate planning eventually became a reason to walk away. The couple started dating around June 2026, and after months of dates, getting to know each other, and meeting each other's families, something still did not sit right with her. But the last straw came one Sunday morning when she received a flower delivery. The post was shared on August 18, 2026, and it received 2,200 likes and 277 comments.

First strike

The author met her boyfriend through her sister. He had invited her on a boat trip in June, and they instantly clicked. During their second date, he took her to one of the nicest restaurants in town. A few days later, on their way to dinner, he asked if she had received anything. The author had no clue what he was talking about. But when he met her parents, he revealed he was embarrassed because he got flowers delivered to the wrong address. Everyone thought it was funny, but something did not sit right with her.

He said, "One of your neighbors is really lucky. They got a really over-the-top arrangement." She found it odd that he'd supposedly sent the flowers to the wrong address because he had already picked her up at her home several times, had her address in their text messages, and had even entered it into his Audi's navigation. She asked for the address he'd given the florist and looked it up. It wasn't a neighbor's house. It was an empty lot. She decided to let it go, considering it his “first strike.”

Helps her escape 'family issues'

On July 4, he hosted a fireworks show. Everyone celebrated at his house. They had a good time, and her son seemed to like him on the ride home. They texted each other constantly the following weeks. He checked in on her, bought them matching hoodies, made plans to hang out, and wanted to get to know her family some more. "He even offers to take me to my favorite historic hotel in our hometown and bring me as a last-minute plus one so I can escape some family issues and cheer me up," she wrote. Everything was perfect.

Missed flights and meetings

As they spent more time together, though, she began noticing things that didn't add up. "He says he has flights he never ends up making for meetings in other states. He's missing every Zoom meeting he says he has when I'm there," she explained in Threads. Recently, he texted her that she was supposed to get a delivery on Wednesday, but changed it to Thursday. She had completely forgotten about it until she "realized this is a pattern, so I texted him at almost 3 am Friday night," saying she never received anything.

A suspicious voicemail

The following day, she received a voicemail from the local flower shop, asking her about the delivery timing. By then, she was already suspicious, so when he tried to rush her out of the house, telling her, "It will be there when you get back," she decided to stay and wait. Sure enough, nothing was delivered. He then sent her a long message blaming the flower shop for the missed delivery. He wrote, "They called me and said they had called you a couple of times to try to arrange a delivery time, and I told him bring it." At this point, she knew he was lying. She had only received one call, and he was trying to put the blame on her and the shop.

The damaging receipt

The following morning, she finally received a bouquet. But she needed the truth, so she asked the delivery person when the order had been placed. The answer confirmed her suspicion: It had been ordered that same morning. Her boyfriend had claimed the flowers were supposed to arrive Wednesday, then Thursday, and then Friday, but he hadn't actually ordered them until that same morning. She called him out and told him she could no longer trust him.

White lies

While many consider lying wrong, the majority of Americans still do it. A 2017 YouGov survey found that 49% of Americans have lied to their partners more than once, 14% lied only once, while 19% said they never lied to a partner.

Other readers also picked up on the pattern, with @the_lilyrosa pointing to his insistence on picking her up, the suspicious flower deliveries, and his unexplained work schedule as a series of red flags. Meanwhile, @pearls_chucks_zero_fux said, "It’s a really cute picture of you & your sister. That’s the only positive thing he seemed to have brought you that was genuine. Emotionally manipulative men are exhausting. I’m sorry." The original poster agreed that his insistence on picking her up had continued, adding that she had repeatedly pushed back against it.
