A woman was browsing through the Facebook marketplace when she found the perfect piece of abstract art but once she brought it home, something popped out of it.
Thrift shops might be full of interesting finds but the Facebook marketplace is no less than that. If you are lucky, you can find something valuable for real cheap. According to Newsweek, a singer-songwriter from Nashville named Emma Klein was browsing through the internet to find a new addition to decorating her home. Klein decided to buy something trendy but she had no idea what she was about to stumble upon inside her new home decor.
"I decided that I would buy a painting like this one if I came across one that was more 'artistic' than the ones I'd seen out and about shopping," Klein told the outlet. While browsing through the online shop, she found an interesting artwork that was up for sale. The black and white patterned abstract piece of art was listed at $80 which made her think it "must be of really good quality." while bargaining with the seller, she tried to get the price down and they ultimately settled at $30.
Her wish appeared to be answered when she spotted an artwork for sale online. "I thought I had gotten a cool piece of art for a low price," she mentioned to the outlet. Later on, Klein took to her TikTok page @imemmaklein to elaborate on the events that followed after she purchased the art piece from a couple. "I am like, going to hang it up and a tiny little bug crawls out of it," Klein said in her popular TikTok video. "This is kind of an isolated circumstance that grossed me out but I don't think it's the actual issue anyway." However, when Klein turned the painting over, she found a tiny tag in the inner part of the painting.
"I squinted about and found that it was from Ross for $30. What are you doing at the marketplace?" she concluded her video. In a follow-up video, she revealed the painting she had hung on her wall and it was a minimal monochrome design with a bunch of circles covering the frame. For some context, Klein further told Newsweek that the art piece was from the popular discount store Ross Dress for Less and its actual cost was $30. It's clear that the price listing on the Facebook marketplace was clearly selling the item at an overpriced rate but Klein was fortunately about to bargain and pay only $30 for it.
"I had to laugh at myself and felt pretty silly at the realization that I was willing to believe a painting was more beautiful because they priced it at a higher value even though, as it turns out, it was the same quality of art I had been avoiding getting from places like Walmart and Ross all along," she mentioned to the news outlet. As her first video gained over 10 million views, Klein wrote to the sellers of the painting who were really kind and even apologized to her for not pricing the art piece correctly. The TikTok users continued to ask her about making more updates on the painting as well and shared their experiences with the Facebook marketplace.

People are unhinged." @errrriiiiinnnn quipped, "I’d be more scared of roaches or bed bugs vs paying too much." @mikkiebee noted, "Before I buy anything off the marketplace, I look it up to compare new vs used prices. At least half the stuff I see on the marketplace, people are asking the same price as that product new." @roxy19306 added, "And here I sold 2 paintings, that I had posted at $40 for the two and somebody knew who the artist was and offered me $200 for both because she didn't want to see me let them go for that little."
