Boss ordered employee to clock in within 3 hours of her dog's passing. She gave them the response they deserved

Having had Penelope in her life for a long time, the pet parent was shattered by her passing. Her boss, however, needed her to report back in 3 hours.

Empathy is non-negotiable in any company and for any job. A woman who goes by @bimbbie on X shared a post on March 12 about how her company reacted heartlessly when she revealed that her dog had passed away.

In a thread, the woman revealed that she had been working with animals, and instead of empathizing with her and understanding the grief, they instead gave her just 3 hours to be away and cremate her pet pal. She shared in a comment that Penelope, her dog, had been with her for a long time. So when her late pet didn’t receive the respect she deserved, she took a bold step.

“This dog has been in my life longer than not,” the pet parent remarked. Despite the fact that she worked with animals, she was given no comfort and was asked to report within 3 hours. Her mom lived an hour away, and it didn’t seem feasible to drive to and back before and after the cremation.

As a company that works with animals, these bonds should be understood, and her grief should have resonated more deeply. However, the woman mentioned that her boss was the owner of the company, and despite having the freedom to be flexible, especially at such a time, she told her employee she was disappointed that she had to fill in for her.

“She called me and said I couldn't have something like this happen again and was being super condescending,” she explained. In yet another thread, the woman added that her boss wanted to fire her but couldn’t do so because she didn’t have the resources to work things out.

Speaking about her deceased pet, the woman mentioned, “She was my mascot. Everyone who met her loved her.” In another comment, in right frustration, she remarked, “Why can't people be more human, like let me f**king grieve?” She added that she would have never asked someone to come into work if this were the case.

In an update, the woman revealed that she did the only thing that the company deserved — she quit. Not only had they been ruthless with her, but they also failed to respect the passing of a life, a life of a pet pal, whose importance they should have understood more than others.

According to data from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), a survey on over 2,800 people revealed that pets are family, and so when they pass away, the grief is as shattering as that of a family member.

Pet parents are so attached to their furry pals that 75% of them reported having anticipatory grief — grieving even at the thought of losing their pet.

67% of pet parents who lost their loved fur baby were shocked by the “intense” grief and pain they felt. The grief after losing a pet is often overlooked, presuming that it’s not as deep as losing a human. 93% of pet owners reported feeling heartbroken and deeply sad after losing their pets. It shakes up their entire world, right from physical life, routines, and even their state of mind.

73% lost their sense of routine, 70% struggled but only 6.9% felt their grief was taken seriously, and only 13% were understood by society.

The internet called out the company and the boss for being inhuman and supported her decision to quit. @blakcboyrizzy wrote, “Take the time you need for you and your mom. No job is worth losing precious moments over.” @raidertim305 remarked, “Sorry for your loss. It sucks every time, and still somehow worth it. Dogs are the best. Also, get a new job. Those people suck."
