There is an emotional story behind every transgender person coming out. For some, it is like standing on a tightrope, balancing vulnerability and courage. For others, it is a wholesome experience backed by much-needed support and heartfelt reassurance from the people who matter the most. On that note, a 21-year-old transgender girl and drag queen, Jenna Tea, from Salt Lake City, Utah, was quite fortunate to have received the best possible reaction while coming out as trans to her great-grandmother. Known as @thejennatea on Instagram, Tea shared her 89-year-old great-grandmother's words in a video, which is absolutely inspiring.

With adorable pictures of Tea and her great-grandmother, Katherine, in the background, the video reveals how the octogenarian reacted to knowing that her great-grandchild was transgender. "Well, it's your life, honey," she began. "You have to do what makes you happy. It's something that we have to adjust to and sometimes, it's hard for other people, but they're not living your life. You are," the old woman said. She emphasized that people might find it difficult to adjust to Tea's gender identity, but that wasn't her problem. "The best thing is to put it out there, deal with it and it is what it is," Katherine added.

The great-grandma then reminisced, noticing that Tea had a "softer side" when she was a little boy. "You wanted dolls and not trucks and things. There were signs, but we never said anything to you because until you know, it's not fair to say anything to you either," Katherine explained. The 89-year-old didn't want her great-grandchild to be "unhappy and struggling" by saying something about her preferences and letting it destroy her. Calling people who won't accept Tea's lifestyle choices as "idiots," the great-grandma said, "Doesn't matter to me if you're male or female, whoever is in there, I love." These words meant the world to Tea, who didn't expect such an optimistic response from Katherine.

Despite being from a whole different generation, which was often intolerant to lifestyle choices like Tea, Katherine was surprisingly supportive and even accompanied Tea on her drag shows. "I think she was the one who was the most accepting out of everyone I've ever talked to, to be honest. So it was really shocking. It just goes to show how wise she is and how beautiful she is on the inside and I just love that about her," Tea told Good Morning America. Having been left speechless and in tears by her great-grandma's thoughtful words, Tea felt that this message had to be shared with the world. "I think it gives people hope and it even gives me hope," the drag queen added.

The video posted on August 11, went viral with over 1 million views. "I'm the mom of an 8-year-old trans girl. This video warmed my heart so much! If I can be half the woman your grandma is, it'll mean I will have succeeded as a mother," said @jasfay08. "The way she validated you by saying there were signs and she wanted you to come to your own conclusion," pointed out @chicksdigflowers. "Beautiful. It warms my heart so dearly to see older generations give love and support to younger ones instead of being rigid, stubborn, and bigoted. So much love here!" added @witchywisdoms.
