She had only mentioned it passing, but he remembered.
We all have certain memories from childhood that we hold on to — be it a beloved birthday gift, a favorite toy, or something we always hoped for but never received. Over time, these memories get tucked away into the folds of our brain, seemingly lost forever, until someone close to us unexpectedly digs them back up X. Reddit user u/AstralWeekss recently shared a story when her husband revealed that his dad had dropped off some Easter gifts. As she moved towards the boxes, excited to unwrap and open them, none could have imagined the contents inside.
She said in her post, "I was expecting flowers, a card, chocolates." But instead of the usual treats, she opened the bag and found a Ginger Spice doll from the original Spice Girls On Tour collection still in the box. "Apparently, my husband at some point in the last 5 years shared with his father that when I was a kid, Ginger was my favorite," she explained. But the doll was always sold out, and she never got her hands on one until now. "This is a story I'm pretty sure I only mentioned once in passing, and have no idea when — I cannot believe he held onto those details all this time."
This wholesome act by the father-in-law and husband was adored by many, and they filled the comment section with nothing but admiration for them. u/Jadacide37 commented, "Man. I work with somebody who just remembers the smallest details about stories I tell him, and I really think that is the most special quality I've found in a person so far in this life. Cherish that. They're paying attention, and that is so rare in this world. I love this for you so much." u/whyyoutwofour shared, "My wife had the same one and held onto it for 30 years for our eventual daughter. The first time she played with it the head broke off and is too aged to get it back on properly, so we still have a decapitated Gerri Halliwell in our toy box." u/zelda_reincarnated wrote, "I love that you mentioned it once to your spouse and he retained it, and then he mentioned it to his dad, who retained it. What a couple of caring, thoughtful dudes."
u/midtownkitten joked, "Wow, your FIL really likes you, wonder what that’s like. On the other hand, I don’t like my FIL much, so I would be concerned if he did like me." u/MMachine17 said, "He went and got with your friends! How cute! This father in law takes music seriously. Serious Spice!" u/saffytaffy commented, "Oh, he's a keeper for sure. Reading your story makes me so happy to hear you have happiness and people like this in your life." u/jboucs shared her own story, "My now husband kept a notes app note about me from the moment we met. It had my favorite color, flower, date, book, and even average temperature (I run cold). He even put my birthday as well as my parents' birthdays in his charge because he knew I struggled to remember them. I found the whole thing unbelievably sweet and endearing..."
