A mother axes her wedding after her fiancé bullies her teen daughter over her art

The silence of a thousand paper cranes at a wedding is usually meant to represent peace and a long life. However, for one bride-to-be (u/Live-Slice4362), the situation was quite different. What was supposed to be a lovely gesture from a daughter for her mother, turned out to be the last straw in her relationship with her fiancé. It all started when the woman's 16-year-old daughter found her true calling in paper origami art and decided to help with decorations by making paper butterflies for the tables at their reception.

While the bride loved the origami idea and went all out to gather the necessary items, her fiancé seemed upset. "Our friend thought it was such an adorable idea, but I could tell my fiancé made a face about it," she wrote. "When we came back home, he expressed his concerns about what my daughter said," calling it "childish" and saying that he "wouldn't have it as his wedding." The bride then had to remind him, "It's our wedding... I won't exclude my daughter's wishes after I already bought her the materials. We argue for a bit more, but I had to go to my sister's to help her move."

When the bride returned home, she wrote, "My daughter came crying to me, telling me she's sorry that she's ruining my wedding with her ideas, and said she'll pay me back for the paper." Heartbroken, the woman continued, "I asked her what she meant, and she said that my fiancé told her that I was only including her idea and wasn't going to really go with it. I was enraged, and when he came back home, I blew up on him." She proceeded to call him names, but the damage to her heart was already done.
However, things didn't end there. Instead of accepting that he might have overstepped, the groom suggested she ask him before making the final call on the decorations. This left the mother conflicted, while he leaned on the Reddit community for help. Their thoughts? Well, they were having none of it.

In an update, the woman revealed that following this ugly incident, she took her daughter to dinner, where she found out that this wasn't the first time her fiancé had gone behind her back to contact her daughter and told her that her art was horrible. After the incident, she not only assured her daughter that she admired her art but also decided to call off the wedding. Not just that, she even confronted her fiancé and told him straight up not to shame her daughter and dishonor her amazing work. Soon, he packed his bags and left. While the two haven't seen each other since then, the woman revealed that her ex-fiancé's mother did apologize on his behalf, as she continues to live a happy single-parent life with her daughter.

"Hurting the mother-daughter relationship just so he could have his way with decorations? I hope OP dumps him asap. You hear so many AITA stories of kids/teens/adults not accepting the new partner, and here is one fully celebrating it and getting sh** on…" u/Kephri1337 wrote. "Even if he offers an apology, I would never trust him again. I suppose there could be a really good reason for his dislike of the decorations. Like maybe his entire planet was destroyed by a giant origami monster while he watched helplessly — but even then there’s no need to be an asshole to the kiddo," u/hyperfocuspocus commented.
