A social media influencer used her popularity to get a homeless family the help they needed to stand on their own feet.
One of the biggest advantages humans have is their capability to establish a community. As years have gone by, humans have found more ways to communicate within the online community and provide help in times of need. A great example of it comes from the hands of Victoria Vanna, who goes by @victoriavanna on TikTok. After finding a family struggling below a bridge, she took it upon herself to transform their life. She posted about them on her social media and got help from all over the country in a matter of days. The whole story offers a renewed faith in the power of humanity.
Vanna posted the first video on December 31, 2023. She showed a glimpse of the family in question: a mother and her three children experiencing homelessness and living below a highway bridge. For many homeless families, shelters are not the optimal choice as there is a possibility of kids being placed into the foster system. The woman shared, "I got them a hotel and I got to know them. I heard their story, and it's truly incredible how much they've been through." She posted about their plight on Instagram and set up a GoFundMe. After seeing the family's story, Glam House contacted them and offered to do the family's hair for free. They also gave a lot of "donations" to the family. In addition, the woman's best friend, Lily, arranged "Christmas gifts" for the family.
In the next update, Vanna shared that by the "power of social media," they were able to raise $13,000 through GoFundMe. They were also bombarded with donations from all across the country. Through the funding, she wants to set the family up with housing for a whole year. With the donations, the family has been able to buy essentials for themselves. Vanna has also helped the mother get started with a business, "Cleanings by Wendy." Vanna told Fox26, "They were so happy, and it's just so nice to see them smile and just get to be normal kids." Wendy tearfully revealed why she moved to America. Her two sons were killed due to violence in her home country and she didn't want the same fate for her other children.
In the final video, Vanna shared the happy update, "We were able to get them housing for an entire year with utilities paid as well." Wendy was beyond emotional looking at everything. It was an ample space with two bedrooms. She was so overwhelmed that after receiving the news, she fainted. The video showed the family moving into their house, happy and grateful for their new beginning. Vanna proudly stated, "By the Grace of god and the power of social media...we helped change this family's life."
The comment section cheered for the family's happy ending. @lifebyangelia loved how the power of community made a worthwhile change and commented, "I really love it when the community comes together. This is an example of how we, the people, can really make a change in this world for the better." @sydneyxhampton expressed her appreciation for Vanna and wrote, "I wish nothing but good things for you for your whole life. This happened because of you. Thank you for being you!"
