She received a wedding invitation and a letter from her ex-boyfriend's fiancée, whom she had never met.
There’s no denying that we live in a world of facades, where things are rarely as they seem. Beneath the surface lies a deeper, more complex truth. This was the case with the letter Cara Kim (@born2besauce on TikTok) received from her ex's bride. In a video shared on the platform, Cara shared the letter she received along with the wedding invitation to her ex’s wedding. "Being hard on myself feeling like I didn't achieve enough this year," the first text overlay of the video read. "I received a letter and wedding invite from my ex-boyfriend's (now) wife saying I never mattered to him (he was my first love) and chose to ignore it instead of being petty," she added in the second frame.
On the surface, the letter seems apologetic rather than malicious. "Dear Cara: I had a few extra that I used for prototyping, so I figured I'd send you one with this note," the bride wrote on a notepad decorated with pink and red hearts. "Thank you for keeping Martin company while I was figuring out what it was that I wanted. I'm so sorry you became collateral damage as soon as I did. I apologized to Martin for my indecision causing him so much pain, but I never got the chance to apologize to you. I wish you all the best!," the letter continued. The bride, whom Cara had never met in person, signed it with an "xoxo" before adding a postscript with her phone number, noting that a response was not necessary.
Cara was taken aback by the odd "apology" note. In a second TikTok video, she shared how she could read between the lines. "It just felt like she wanted to show me that they're getting married and basically explain that I was just like a placeholder or like a rebound for Martin and that's why he was with me, which I didn't know," she said. She also found it strange that the bride seemed to think Cara still cared, given that they had broken up years ago. "We broke up so long ago. He's so far removed from my life," she explained, though she acknowledged that it had been a pretty serious relationship.
"At the beginning of our relationship, we went over our previous romantic history. He told me that he had this best friend in college and they became a thing, and then she ended it and then they were no longer best friends," she explained in the second video. However, the guy later broke up with Cara during her sophomore year and blocked her on every platform imaginable. "He blocked me on things I didn't know you even like block people on. Like, I literally had no way of contacting him." She later discovered that he had started dating his former best friend again. "They started dating like a month or two after he dumped me," she added.
Fast forward to her senior year, when Cara received a letter addressed to her college. "It said my name, so I ripped open the package to find the letter inside." She expressed how confused she was to receive the apology letter from the bride. "That girl owes me nothing. I literally don't know her. To me, it just felt like she wanted to show me that they were getting married and basically explain that I was a placeholder, like a rebound for her ex which I didn't know." People took to the comments section of the second video, sharing their thoughts on how the letter seemed unnecessary and uncalled for. "She’s probably insecure about you and wanted to state her 'dominance,' but instead she comes off as crazy lol," expressed @WildRiftADC. "All these years too… and to find ur dorm address… that’s insane," added @jen._nyy69. "She’s probably still watching your social media," expressed @spookysmommy.
