Many people believe it's okay to have kids because they want one. However, one needs to prepare and have all the resources in hand to commit to a child.

Making children a part of a family and raising them is a huge responsibility. Several aspects like physical, financial, emotional and mental needs are to be considered before one can plan a child. Jay—who goes on TikTok by @flossybaby—made a strong case for not having kids if one doesn’t have the necessary provisions to offer. The woman replied to the video of a man who believed that people who don’t have money should not have kids. She agreed with what the man said but elaborated more on the topic. She highlighted how people have been in an ongoing debate about the idea that poor people should not have kids.

“Children are not dolls. They’re not toys. You don’t just get one because you want one,” the woman said. She stressed that it was common sense not to have kids if one didn’t have the necessary means. “Being a parent has requirements and one of those requirements is financially providing for your child. You don’t have to be a millionaire, but you should have money to feed and cloth your child every single day,” the woman remarked. She then added another essential yet overlooked requirement about having kids. “Keep the money aside. I still think many of y’all shouldn’t be having kids,” she said.

“A lot of you are emotionally inept. You can’t even regulate your own emotions. You’d result in beating a child when they make mistakes and you spiral over the smallest things,” she added. She explained how many people lack the skills and patience in the emotional spectrum, which is crucial in raising a child. “And many of you are not even aware of that,” she added. Jay further emphasized the need to prepare oneself before planning a child rather than simply having one.

“Having a child is inherently selfish, so I feel that being financially stable is the bare minimum thing you can do to ensure that this child has a decent life,” the woman said. She also urged people not to make the topic a controversial matter since providing for a child financially, physically and emotionally matters to a large extent. Lastly, the woman said, “Children who grew up in poverty will tell you that you should wait until you’re financially stable to have a kid.” With nearly 4 million views, over 953k likes and 15k comments, several people agreed with what she had to say.

@iiiwokeuplikethis said, “The desire is not enough.” @mmarisahg2013 said, “Yes because my parents made me feel like a burden since I made their life harder with finances.” @sarah_manely said, “I am so tired of seeing people complain about money and then say they’re trying for another.” @pinponischeverelol made a strong point and said, “Love is not enough either. Love will not pay bills, feed you or get you clothes.”

@kriskiddy said, “Exact reason why we’re waiting. When we tell people, ‘We’re waiting till we’re financially stable,’ they say, ‘You’ll never be.’” To this, the creator responded by clarifying, “I think many people confuse being rich with being financially stable. You don’t have to be rich, just be financially stable enough to feed and care for your kids.”
