The mom took just a second before she went right back into the 80s with her electrifying performance.
People are eager to bring back cultures and trends from the 80s and 90s to revamp modern times with a vintage twist. The latest trend everyone is melting over has got to be the “dance like it’s the 80s” trend. It involves young people asking their parents in their prime years in the 80s to shake a leg and give away the popular moves of the time. While several parents have owned social media platforms with groovy moves, one mom’s raw and heartfelt dance thrilled everyone. Kimlet—who goes by @yungkimlet on TikTok—shared a video exposing the authentic and upbeat moves of her mother.
“Asking my mom to dance to this song like she would have in the 80s,” the text overlay reads. She placed the camera to capture her mother and played an upbeat tune. The mom, presumably now in her 40s or over was confused but delivered on point. She took a second to get a hang of the beat and without sparing time, immediately began rendering a spontaneous hook step. Though a little rusty, the mom was perfectly jamming with the music and her smooth transitions from one move to the other to create a sync was jaw-dropping.
She danced just for a few seconds but even throughout the short time, she managed to enjoy herself. It was evident that she had fun and was hit with nostalgia, feeling every bit of the music and her rhythm. People applauded the mom’s electrifying performance and appreciated her effort and energy. @chantelleburkday wrote, “Bring back the 80s moves, I love this trend!” @v00bies said, “This is by far the best move I’ve seen to this trend.” @hailey1820 said, “Out of all the ones I’ve seen, this one is the most natural!” @hairmaggicchronicals wrote, “My favorite thing about this trend is that there’s no hesitation in any of these people. It’s just encoded in their DNA, they just know!”
Many people connected her moves to that of the late Matthew Perry’s character “Chandler Bing” from the popular 90s sitcom “FRIENDS” @clk922 said, “It's giving Chandler Bing in the best way.” @digital.secretomarketing exclaimed, “That’s a Chandler Bing dance if I ever saw one.” @oneshots55 shared another character’s resemblance saying, “It’s giving Monica Geller in the best way.” Moms and women from the 90s were hit with nostalgia after seeing the iconic move and couldn’t help but commend the mom. @jaydemads15 remarked, “Truly, this trend makes me so unbelievably happy. I’m glad we can give a piece of their youth back to them.”
@michaeltouhy exclaimed, “So many of these dances don’t hit the mark but this was truly one from the 80s.” @jackiesnackie wrote, “This is the first mom I’ve seen that truly felt the music when she was in the 80s.” @ktzebras acknowledged the mom’s enthusiasm saying, “I love this trend because they instantly look so youthful every time they start dancing.” @kjustice10 exclaimed, “These videos of parents dancing are healing a part of me I didn’t know was broken.”
