It was clear the locksmith didn't touch the glove compartment where the money was, but the woman was adamant that he stole it

An experienced locksmith was finishing up after a routine car key programming job and expected to receive a simple payment. Instead, he found himself surrounded by police officers, facing imminent arrest and the potential ruin of his career. The situation began when he arrived at a location to help a woman who had lost her keys. After getting to work, the straightforward task turned into a nightmare when the customer accused him of stealing $500 from her glove compartment. But things didn't turn out in her favor. An account named @theMakarioz shared the entire incident on X, where it quickly garnered over 882,000 views since being posted on June 12, 2026.

A routine call turned sour

The incident began while the man was finishing up his job. It was then that the customer walked around to the passenger side, asking whether she could quickly grab something from the glove box. The locksmith told her to go right ahead. However, as soon as she returned to her friend, they began talking about some missing money, about $500. "Sir, were you just in the glove compartment?" The woman asked the locksmith, to which he replied, "No, I didn't touch anything." He was even recording the entire incident to prove his innocence.

The man didn't even move toward the passenger side of the car, so it was clear that he didn't take the money. However, that's not what the woman and her friend believed, and the conversation quickly began escalating into an argument. The two women began to accuse the man of stealing the money and threatened to call the police. Of course, given that he knew nothing about the money and hadn't taken it, he didn't waver even a single bit. The woman then dialed 911, and three cops showed up at the site.

False accusations

As soon as the officers arrived, the man tried to explain that the woman was doing so to avoid payment. However, one of them shut him down, suggesting that since it was the women who called them, he would have to listen to them first. Still, as tensions further rose, the locksmith tried to interrupt the officers once again, but they warned the locksmith that if he didn't stop speaking, they'd handcuff him. Nonetheless, once the dust settled a little bit, the officer asked the locksmith if he had even touched the glove box, to which he replied with a no.

The real 'culprit'

The locksmith even offered to let the officers search his car, claiming that they wouldn't find anything. But while he was making this offer, the woman's friend showed up and revealed that it was the other woman's partner who took that money. Just like that, the case was solved. However, it's worth noting that if the man wasn't recording, all these things could've ended quite differently, to say the least. That's because then it would've been the woman's word against his, and the police would've had to take some action.

Customer-facing workers face this a lot

Nonetheless, even though it's great to see this locksmith escape without any consequences for these false accusations, customer-facing workers face a lot these days. According to a study held by SDA, about 88% of front staff have faced verbal abuse at least once in their careers. What's interesting is that out of the workers who have experienced this, about 59% of these instances have come from repeat offenders, indicating a pattern. Lastly, about 12.5% of these victims have been involved in a physical altercation or received direct threats.

That is exactly why the people in the comments were relieved that the man was recording at the time of this incident. @DSStocks13 commented, "This is why having a body cam, as well as a dash cam, and a porch cam, is so important. Fraudsters out here are doing anything they can to avoid honest work. Even if it means hurting you financially, physically, or both. Protect yourself." At the same time, @cranstonfranc suggested, "If the locksmith had asked for payment first… would’ve saved him a lot of trouble."
