Mom grabbed husband's blazer to finish daughter's World Book Day costume — and found a letter saying he ‘couldn’t wait’ for life with another woman
Had it not been for her daughter, Helen Thorn would continue to live in disillusionment
A woman named Helen Thorn discovered a love letter addressed to another woman in her husband’s jacket pocket. It was World Book Day, and her daughter needed a blazer for her character. That’s when the truth came out. She elaborated on the entire incident in a June 28, 2026, episode of the @parentunplugged podcast hosted by Charis Halsall.
Living in a labyrinth of lies
It was only by accident that Thorn stumbled upon the truth. On World Book Day, her daughter had chosen to play the character of “Doctor Who.” For that character, they needed a blazer. Thorn told her that they’d use her dad’s blazer, so she went ahead to grab the blazer. While she held it, she noticed a card in the pocket. On the card was the name of another woman and a love letter that suggested that their affair had been going on for a long time. He had specified that he "couldn't wait" to start a new life with her. The other woman was also married and had two children as well.
'I just felt really sick'
“My daughter was next to me. I just put it straight into my pocket. I went, 'Oh, let’s just go downstairs.' I just knew that my life had suddenly changed, like everything went into question, and yeah, I just felt really sick,” Thorn described to Halsall. When her husband arrived home, she called him upstairs and shoved the love letter on his face. “It’s over,” she told him, and that was that. Halsall commented on her experience as “raw, chaotic, and brutally honest.”
It affects the mind, too...
Like Thorn, nearly 21.5% of the partners discover their spouse’s infidelity by catching them independently or red-handed, per a Psychology Today survey. For most partners, it is a traumatic and life-changing event. For instance, 2025 research published by the School of Behavioral Sciences, Liberty University, concluded that most women exhibit symptoms of acute distress and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after discovering their husband’s infidelity.
Likewise, another study published in the International Journal of Women Empowerment echoed the insight. In this study, 63% of betrayed women reported that infidelity of their husbands affected them both physically and mentally, while 28% admitted to having psychological problems.
Booting him out was the perfect choice
Meanwhile, viewers flooded the comments box with messages of empathy, rage, and validation for the gut-wrenching feeling Thorn must have gone through after she found the love letter. @iamnicolechapman shared a similar experience: “Helen, thank you for sharing. I know exactly how you felt! My daughter was 2 when, in an instant, my life changed in the same way… and unravelled over 6 months in ways I couldn’t have imagined!”
Another woman (@charpriceycasey), likely an acquaintance of Thorn, said, "Oh, Helen. I remember when this happened. You were so brave, vulnerable yet stoic. I’ll never forget it, and it is never lost on me how quickly our lives can crumble. Well done, you, and immaturely, I hope they’re both miserable.”
