Pregnant wife kept brushing off husband's 'innocent crush' with younger coworker — until she finally snooped in his laptop bag

More often than not, infidelity starts with subtle changes in behavior that gradually make a partner question whether something is wrong. At one point, a 42-year-old woman (u/eatingotherscupcakes) felt leery when her husband returned home from work carrying bundles of baked goodies and gifts. Her suspicions fell upon a 20-something co-worker who had just joined his company. Time revealed that her suspicions were true. Just as she had suspected, her husband was involved with the young girl while she grappled with her pregnancy cramps. The post was recently shared through her newest account (u/Direct-Caterpillar77) on July 15, 2026, and has since gained 3.5k upvotes.

The gifts kept coming

The story began in 2013 when her husband hired the young worker in his department. At this time, his wife was pregnant. Given that there were very few women in his office and that too older ones, it seemed natural that he showed a slight infatuation towards the worker. And even though she wasn’t a jealous person by nature, the way things unfolded, she got tossed in a tailspin of doubts and trepidations about the two of them. Only a month had passed since the worker was hired when her husband started returning home with homemade baked goods like cakes, cupcakes, and breads. Then, the other day, he went to lunch with the girl wearing clothes that she had gifted him, without any special occasion.

No smoke without fire

One day, his boss called him out on this and said rumors were swirling in the office about their romantic outings. At home, the woman insisted that he stop receiving presents from the girl, but the gifts didn't stop. A few days later, the woman was rummaging through her husband’s laptop bag when she found explicit material that suggested that there was probably an affair going on between the two. Upon confrontation, he confessed, and she kicked him out of the house.

Catalyst for the relationship

Even though the couple had already decided to separate, they reunited and started marriage counseling for the sake of their kids, according to an update. "He also gave back to her any and all gifts she ever gave him," the wife wrote. She even contacted the girl to let her know how much this affair had impacted their relationship. "He has had a lot of time to reflect on their relationship from beginning to the end, and he is seeing that she used him to get ahead at work and for possibly a better life. He is seeing all the lies that she told him and how she manipulated situations to keep the affair going," she said.

Both her husband and the girl started looking for new jobs and stopped talking to each other unless it was for business. In January 2015, her husband was laid off from the job due to the affair and violation of company policy. The girl used this opportunity to lure him into the affair once again, but with the support of his wife, he refused. According to the last update, the woman and her husband were still doing therapy, spending time together, trying to rebuild their life, and taking one day at a time.

Insidiousness of workplace affairs

Workplace affairs have been time and again proven to be one of the most catastrophic causes of relationship failure. Reboot, an SEO and digital PR agency, surveyed 4,000 people and found that 48% of the individuals had dated their co-worker at one point or the other. 22% admitted dating their boss or manager, and 36% of the affairs involved a married partner. 84% of the employers said they were not happy with their employees dating, and 4% of the employees even had to quit the job due to a relationship at the workplace.

The hearts of many readers sank as they read the woman’s story. Most of them appreciated the way she handled the whole situation. One commented, “The most mature approach to the situation I have read about here in a long time. From both involved. I think the chances are high that you can make it work if there is no relapse into old habits.” Another said, “I think this is the most measured, concise, and mature account of working through infidelity in a marriage that I've read here. It's an uphill battle, but you both sound like you're doing what you need to do to save your marriage, and I really commend you for it.”
