Snapping photos in public is not a crime, but clicking strangers without their consent is unethical. Cristina Floro (@cristinafloro), a content creator and model, recently took to Instagram to share something similar. Right as she was about to leave a bar, she noticed a man in his 50s holding his phone upright, pointing towards her. She walked past him, turned around, and saw his gallery was filled with her photos. Floro immediately confronted him, but it was his wife's reaction that stopped her cold.

'Don't drag me into it'

Floro had a good time at the bar, drinking and eating oysters. But when it was time to leave, she had an unpleasant encounter with a man. Well, she saw a woman sitting across from him, while he was busy snapping photos of her from different angles. Floro caught him zooming in on one of her photos and immediately confronted him. She told him to delete the photos.

Moreover, Floro asked the woman at the table if she was his wife, but the woman shot back, saying, "Why are you bringing me into this?" The model was stunned by her response and lack of empathy for another woman, so she grilled her about how she was okay with her husband taking photos of strangers.

Flimsy excuse

The incident shook Floro to the core. She couldn't understand why she had to explain to a grown man that what he was doing was "not consensual," "disrespectful," and "disgusting." When the man finally spoke up, he claimed to be a photographer capturing the "ambience" and the "oysters." But his wife just doubled down and defended her husband further. Floro tried to snatch the phone from his hands to delete the photos but was unable to. All she could do was report the incident to the bar staff. She concluded by saying that no one interjected or tried to help her. "Women have to stand up for themselves because if we don't, then who the f*ck else will?"

Protecting privacy

Americans value their privacy a lot. In fact, a 2015 Pew Research Center survey found that 74% believed being in control of who had access to information about them was extremely important. A similar share of respondents (72%) reported that being able to share confidential information with someone they trust was also very important. Additionally, 67% agreed that it is "very important" that no one watches or listens to them without their permission. Not only was Floro watched by the man, but he also took photos of her without her consent, which was why she was extremely upset and felt her privacy was violated.

Surprisingly, people were divided in the comment section. They believed what he did was wrong, but Floro's reaction afterward was a little too much. However, some also expressed concern for Floro. For instance, @jasonmlives commented, "People have gotten too comfortable with their phones." @markmcjordan wrote, "There are perverts everywhere. The problem is he wasn’t even trying to be discreet. That’s the disturbing part."
