We're convinced this goofy boss is Michael Scott 'IRL': 'Walking HR nightmare but the best boss'

In a world where our offices are like our second homes, our bosses and colleagues are our second family. It's a place where we spend over 8 hours, which is one-third of a day, thereby making it essential that employees have a good time there. Having a boss who can not only guide you in the work front but can also keep a chill and light environment with lots of jokes and upliftment is more than a blessing. Jade Hicks — who goes by the username @ruefromshein — shared a TikTok video of her boss who is very similar to Michael Scott, the iconic lead character from NBC sitcom “The Office,” played by Steve Carell.

Jade Hicks, a TikTok personality and employee for Jeff, posted her boss’ video on TikTok which blew up the Internet. The video features him doing crazy things around the office, including walking around wearing a sheet mask on his face, getting vaccinated with his shirt off, popping colourful balloons, sitting and staring into the computer wearing a bright red cap from his favourite restaurant, and more. His hilarious and unpredictable activities have become a source of amusement for not only Jade but also for viewers from all around the globe.

His quirky habits and mannerisms are very similar to “The Office” character, Michael Scott. The character is infamous for his dark humor and non-traditional behavior around the office. Those who have watched the series know how he applied peanut butter to his hair to get off a stuck gum with the help of the assistant “to the” regional manager. His passion for parkour and the Dundies Awards is unforgettable, too, apart from him “accidentally” grilling his foot and wanting someone to pick him up for work.

The inset text on the video reads, “My boss is Michael Scott IRL (in real life).” Jade compares her boss to the character due to his ability to create a light environment in the office. His behaviors, like Scott's, do not conform to traditional office environments, and that is what makes him stand out. To confirm that this is Jeff’s real personality, she told PEOPLE that the videos were taken over the last four years she has been working in the firm and that Jeff had no idea she would be compiling them and posting on TikTok.

The video blew up the Internet, and the comment section started brimming with responses from all over. @gigifindsout commented, “Oh my God, does he know he went viral? Show him our comments and record his reaction,” while @aol99124xbk joked, “What does the red hat say, asking for a friend?” @piinkvelvett expressed, “The tiny microphone and him saying the coffee is filled with love,” and @daisybebex wrote, “H*** yeah that's the kind of place I want to work, not some uptight place with uptight people. We need more bosses like him. He's a hero.” 

Jade responded to the viewers’ reaction to the video by telling the outlet, “Oh, it was surprising, honestly. I’ve had some pretty toxic work environments in the past, but Jeff just kind of blew it out of the park. He was just so original and crazy and just a good boss.” When Jeff was asked about the same, he replied, “No, I was not in on it at all. I've never seen ‘The Office’. So, I had no context for me to even understand.”

He talked about his work mindset, “When it’s game time, it’s game time — we are on. But when there’s downtime, I try to make myself comfortable, and others, by making fun of myself.” Jade said, “We always crack jokes with each other, too. I always make fun of him for being old, and he’ll make fun of me for being young. It’s very unexpected.” Jeff mentioned his mantra: “There are really 2 sides to leadership. One is ‘follow me,’ but the other is: how do I help you become a leader? How can I bring you with me?”

“We’ve gotten like 10 résumés,” Jade shared, mentioning that one was from France. “I find that hilarious,” Jeff expressed. “Actual résumés. A girl from Paris sent one. We’re like, you don’t even know what we do, but it’s amazing.” We get it, who would not want to work with someone as fun as Jeff? The award for “World’s Best Boss” undoubtedly goes to Jeff.
