People on the internet suggested that the grandma truly knows what works best when it comes to clothes.
A person's grandma might likely have different clothing choices than them and think differently about what is appropriate or not. Different clothes might also have different meanings for two people who have a big generational gap. Similarly, a woman took to TikTok to share the lingerie that her grandmother gave her for her wedding and it is quite hilarious. The video shared by George—who goes by @georgeiam7345 on TikTok—evoked quite an unexpected reaction from people on the internet.
The text overlay of the video reads, "My grandmother bought me 'lingerie' for my wedding." In the video, the woman could be seen in a pastel pink nightgown that went well below her knees. The gown also came with a full-length shrug and full sleeves that covered her well. The woman jumped about and danced with her would-be-husband in the video to hilariously show off the outfit bought by her grandmother. The husband laughed once, gave a double thumbs up, and backed off as the woman continued to show her funny dance moves. She captioned the video, "Sexy?" The video received over 2.4 million views and more than 260.6k likes.
Surprisingly, people in the comments thought that the "lingerie" had its own purpose and was "sexy" in its own way. @bsophie111 wrote, "My granny had 16 kids. Trust me, those nightgowns must do wonders." @mariana86m commented, "My husband complained when I bought an 'old lady dress' and now he complains when I'm not wearing 'the soft one,' so I had to go buy more of them." @servingsunflowersoup remarked, "My mammaw had a house full of kids, grandkids, great and great grandkids at her 80th birthday party because of a gown like this."
@jodimritchie shared, "Oh my God! I cried when I saw this! My grandma got me a hot pink one with matching fuzzy slippers! I, of course, had what Mom bought underneath, lol! I had forgotten that memory! She’s been gone ten years and your TikTok brought her memory back! Thank you!" @therobynmckim expressed, "This the nightgown both my grandmothers wore anytime I stayed the night…let’s just say one of them was telling people not to visit in the mornings because that was her and my grandpa's time." @ladywiggton pointed out, "Your grandma knows the power of that nightgown. She was there when the magic was written."
In another similar story, five brides in wartime Australia wore the same wedding dress as silk was used for parachutes and was not available to make wedding dresses. As everything was being rationed, it was quite difficult to find something as extravagant as a wedding dress, as per ABC News Australia. The dress belonged to Lillian Judd, who got married in it in April 1939. Months after her wedding, Australia entered the war and things changed drastically in the town of Merrigum in northern Victoria. By 1945, four other brides had dawned the gown on their wedding day. The gown with orange needlework flowers is known as the "very useful dress" and has been displayed at the Merrigum Museum, where the local historical society hosts a wedding dress exhibition every ten years.
