On August 22, 2026, a woman who goes by u/leading-knowledge712 on Reddit recounted how she, her husband, and a bunch of other wedding guests had to flock to a nearby pizza place mid-party, after being starved with barely any appetizers. Her post has since received 17,000 upvotes online.

The hunger games begin
The woman explained that her husband was a good friend of the groom’s family and didn’t want to insult them by skipping the wedding, so they accepted the invitation. The event was supposed to last from 3 pm till midnight, and the wedding party had told them that dinner would be included, along with lots of appetizers. So the couple left the house only with a light lunch. However, when they reached the venue, they noticed about 200 guests. After intervals of prolonged, boring speeches and cheap wine, they looked forward to some delicious food. But soon they realized there wasn't just enough for everyone. In fact, the "waiters only brought out one or two trays of appetizers every 15 minutes or so to serve over 200 guests," the woman explained. Moreover, she recalled how young guests would gather by the kitchen and grab food before it could reach the older guests. At one point, attendees were so "hangry" that everyone started pushing elbows, fighting for occasional morsels of snacks.
The pizza escape
The author was also pissed. To add to her chagrin, the bride's mom told her that the dinner had been excluded from the menu because it was too expensive. Around 7 pm, the couple, along with 30 guests, lumbered towards a nearby pizzeria to fill their growling stomachs. “The pizza place was amazed by the rush of elegantly dressed customers gobbling up rather mediocre pizza like starving wolverines,” she described. Soon enough, other guests followed, and as the word reached the bride’s mom, she infuriatingly called the couple “rude” for leaving the wedding midway.

Meanwhile, the groom’s mom got tipsy and started making snide remarks about what a terrible wedding it was. On the other side, the groom’s grandmother fainted from hunger and was taken to a hospital in an ambulance. The author and her husband stuck around until 10 pm and then slipped away from this seemingly unusual wedding drama. “I felt we should have all gotten t-shirts saying that we’d survived the nearly food-less reception," she added.

Weddings are fun, and most guests, apparently, attend weddings to savor delicious food. In fact, according to research by the resource website Zola, food is among the top five reasons guests look forward to when attending a wedding. Similarly, another survey of 1,000 people by Walters Wedding Estates found that 7 in 10 guests expect an open bar when attending a wedding. “When I attend a wedding, I’m expecting to be fed. If I came in and spotted just finger food, I wouldn’t be happy,” Michael Sarnoff, who works in wedding bookings, told TODAY.
