There's not much a girl wants more in life than pockets in all her clothes. And no, I don't mean those itty-bitty pockets that can barely fit a thumb and are an utter disgrace to their kind. I mean the deep, heavy-duty kind that can hold my phone, chapstick, cards, keys, and a couple of wine bottles if need be. Alas, in keeping with the traditional "damsel-in-distress" trope, this remains an unfulfilled dream most of the time and we are often left to rely on our pocketed male friends and companions to bear the burden — or carry a bag everywhere we go.

But as you know, there are times when neither is possible. When you're getting married, for instance. This is why wedding gowns with pockets are absolute life-savers. In addition to being a laid-back element and fun little secret in a traditional outfit, these pockets are the ultimate sources of convenience and joy for a bride on her big day. They enable her "to have and to hold," well, anything they want, really. Remember what happened to Carrie in Sex and the City? With pockets, she wouldn't have had to worry about tracking down her phone in the midst of all that drama.

Moreover, such is the nature of wedding gowns with pockets that they spread joy to even those around the bride. Twitter user Esther Kezia Thorpe felt this elation when attending a friends' wedding a couple of years ago where she was thrilled to find that her friends' dress had deep pockets. "STOP EVERYTHING so one of my friends got married yesterday and she had POCKETS ON HER WEDDING DRESS which is just the best thing I have ever seen," she tweeted, sharing a photo of the stunning gown.

Her tweet spread like wildfire on social media, prompting other brides to excitedly show off their pocketed wedding outfits. "Wedding dresses are often not designed with practicality in mind," Esther explained to Bored Panda. "But a wedding is the one day a bride is unlikely to have a handbag handy, so pockets are more essential than ever for tissues, lipstick, and of course, snacks (no one wants a hangry bride!). Pockets on women’s clothing has been a growing issue for a number of years, especially as we become more attached to our phones. It’s very rare to see any women’s clothes with adequate pocket space for an Oyster card, let alone a phone!"

"I’ve heard rumors that it’s a conspiracy between fashion houses and handbag designers – if we aren’t given pockets, we have to use handbags," she continued. "Having recently found a few niche retailers who do work dresses with pockets, I’m now a firm convert to proper pockets. They’re a life-saver, especially during hayfever season when it’s essential to have a pack of tissues handy at all times."
