She was assigned a table where she had to serve 14 military men. She catered to their demands for 3 hours and 26 minutes. When they finally left, she was humiliated by what her colleagues tried to hide from her. The post received 19,000 upvotes and 532 comments.
Running and serving for almost 4 hours
The author was assigned a table of 14 all to herself because the other waitresses were busy in the other section. The men belonged to the Russian military. She worked 8 hours before her shift and had morning classes, so she was tired by the time the customers arrived. She explained, "I spent 3 hours and 26 minutes (yes, the staff counted) running around them, refilling water, taking out the dirty plates, bringing new plates to feed 14 people, and every 4 minutes I was there to clean after them, as they’d start shouting for me." On top of that, three of the men tried to flirt with her. She had a headache because of all the noise, but was not allowed to go into the changing room to get a painkiller. She powered through the headache and continued to serve them till they left.
Humiliated and dehumanized
Thankfully, two waitresses and a bartender helped her clean up. As she was walking to the kitchen to drop off the plates, she noticed them looking at something on the table. They looked at each other, concerned, then threw whatever it was in the bin. When she walked by the trash, she realized it was a fake $50 note. "I sneaked to take a peek, and it was a fake 50$ bill they left to troll me." That was the last straw. She went to the bathroom and cried. "I was sobbing uncontrollably, walking to the subway. I worked a 12-hour shift, and they decided to be so cruel to me for no reason. I saw the pity in the colleagues' eyes... I feel so humiliated and dehumanized," she wrote.
Entitled diners
Sadly, not everyone is kind to people who are simply trying to do their jobs. A survey by Lightspeed, cited by Business Insider, found that 62% of restaurant employees reported customers were being more demanding than ever. 72% revealed that customer behavior had gotten worse. Some even experienced emotional abuse and disrespect from customers. With the author, it was already a tiring day, but what the 14 military men did made it worse.
'Call the base'
People came together in the comment section to comfort the author with kind words. u/himbologic advised, "You should call the base. Maybe nothing comes of it, maybe something does." u/nolenahs wrote, "That's not a prank. That's so cruel. If you're able to get their names somehow, I would totally report that s--- to their commanding officer. That's disgusting."
