As a waitress of 10 years, she knows how to do her job. But when a customer left a poor review for a silly reason, she made the best out of it.
One shouldn’t always take criticism and negativity to heart. Sometimes, these things get the best of us and people need reminders to let them go and continue to grow and progress. Daniella Claeys, a waitress–who goes by @dandanthexanman on TikTok–shared this reminder in the most sassy way possible, using her experience. The woman who works at a restaurant mentioned that she had received poor customer reviews and feedback. However, Claeys did not take it to heart, especially considering she wasn’t as much at fault. Instead, the waitress had the most epic response. “I’m a waitress and a little while back, I got a 1-star review,” she mentioned.
She shared a picture of the review written by the customer. It read, “We will never be back at this restaurant. The staff made us feel so uncomfortable. The waitress, named Dani, suggested the manager have us seated outside in the cold when my baby cried because she had a headache. She didn’t bother to hide her discomfort and looked at us like we were rubbish. We left the restaurant right away. Very not family friendly atmosphere there. Don’t bother to go with kids.” It was followed by one-star feedback over every category, drinks and food, service, and recommendations, to name a few.
Sharing her story, Claeys explained that she was having a bad day and didn’t realize that her response would spiral downwards. “If you’ve ever worked in hospitality, you know if you slip up once, it is over,” she remarked. Claeys explained that she had worked as a waitress for 10 years and was now head waitress. “I had a cold and a migraine and I came in because I didn’t want to let the team down,” she said. “The child was throwing a tantrum and when you’ve got an optical migraine, you’re noise-sensitive. I was uncomfortable,” she said. She went on to say that she is always careful not to make her problems visible to customers.
“However, I slipped up. Your child was screaming and I was sick,” she recalled. Claeys then asked her manager whether the family could be seated in the terrace area, which was heated and arranged for customers. She was of the idea that the child could be distracted from their tantrum. “But she thought we were telling her to get out,” the waitress added. The customer then left, quite agitated and shared the negative review, naming the waitress. “You’ve put my name, which means the information is now mine,” she said, unbothered by the negativity.
She epically responded by printing the 1-star review on a t-shirt and wearing it proudly. She even mentioned that she’d like to sell them as well. Claeys also explained that the situation was fragile and as much as she tried, her condition that day didn’t allow her to be as tolerant. Also, the customer was rude, which brings no guilt in responding by broadcasting the review on a t-shirt. @jessicationstation remarked, “People never understand the grind of hospitality, big respect!” @tarantino shared, “I got a one-star review asking me to go work at Karen’s diner because I asked the customers to stop their kids from running in the pub. Going to get that printed on a hoodie.”
