A loyal chef at a Canadian restaurant stopped in front of the owner's photo every morning before starting work — nobody understood why until CCTV footage revealed the overwhelming truth. Moved by his gesture, Mitzi Tsoukas, the second-generation owner of Neighbours Restaurant & Pizza House (@neighboursrestaurant) in Vancouver, took to Instagram to share the heartfelt ritual in a video that has already received 2.1 million views.

The Canadian restaurant — famous for its pizza — was established by George and Nicky Tsoukas in 1982. A lot has changed in the four decades, except for Chef Johnny, who has been an important part of the family ever since. Over the years, he had formed a genuine bond with the owners, especially Mr. George. In fact, their friendship was so strong that Mitzi admitted she never had to worry about her father getting old, because she knew he had the support of his wonderful team, particularly Johnny. But things took a heartbreaking turn when George passed away a few years back, and his daughter, Mitzi, took over as the new owner.

Although the restaurant found a worthy successor to uphold its legacy, Johnny lost a companion he could never replace. But to honor the great impact Mr. George had left on him, the chef stands in front of his picture, saying a little prayer every morning before starting his shift. Touched by the gesture, Mitzi revealed that Johnny had promised Mr. George to support his daughter along the way and had always stayed true to that promise. "I know my dad is watching over all of us and is so proud. Thank you, Johnny," she wrote in her post.

A poll conducted by Monster among American workers found that 27% of respondents' friendships at work were among the top factors they love most about their job. Apart from camaraderie, the way a boss or supervisor treats employees plays a major role in determining team productivity. While 36% appreciate work ethic and positive attitude, 35% praise kindness, and 32% value open-minded managers. This means Johnny's daily ritual is not only a reflection of his loyalty but also the profound influence Mr. George had left on him.

Meanwhile, people were in awe watching the chef pay a heartfelt tribute to the restaurant owner and friend; for instance, @small_wanders commented, "As a Canadian Asian, I understand the significance this means — honoring your dad this way every day. He must have meant so much to Johnny! Losing a friend and a friendship of 40 years is heartbreaking. The loyalty, love, and appreciation — that's honor and dedication. I hope this chef gets a little retirement pension, as I’m sure your dad would have wanted."

Similarly, @carmphan shared, "What an incredible bond they must have had. It is priceless. I love how he starts his workday with a chat with your dad." @nelly.fxbb wrote, "I just know every ounce of love he has in his body goes into his cooking."
