A man fighting in the Gulf War returned to find his roommate had been renting out their apartment.
Having a roommate can be a blessing. You can share your rent and other utility bills. However, there are instances when having a roommate can also turn into a nightmare. An army veteran took to Reddit to share a story from long ago when he found his roommate trying to make some quick bucks while he was deployed overseas. u/SmartGreasemonkey shared how he was serving in the Gulf War when his roommate took advantage of his absence to rent out his apartment space to other people.
"I owned a duplex and lived in the front unit. I rented my finished basement to a guy, let's call him Hulk, who was a con man. I was shipped out to the Gulf the day after Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. I was gone fighting the Gulf War for 7.5 months. While I was gone, Hulk rented out my bedroom, guest room, sofa and some floor space to a bunch of loser friends," the post shared. When the veteran returned home after the war, he found that a lot of things in his duplex were broken or missing and decided to kick out the roommate. But there was more to the story.
"While I was gone, Hulk picked a fight in a bar with a 70+ year-old guy. They went out to the parking lot and Hulk took a swing at the old man. He woke up three days later in the ICU of the local hospital. The little old man was a retired union enforcer. Hulk had no health care insurance. He sued the bar and the old man. Frivolous law suites were part of his income. The civil suit against the little old man was dismissed with prejudice by the judge," the post revealed.
However, the bar's insurance agreed to pay the guy $25,000 as his hospital bill totaled up to $38,000. That was the moment the army vet decided to exact his revenge and got in touch with one of the women who worked at the hospital's collection office. "I told her the name of the bar, the attorney, the insurance company and the $25,000 settlement. Hulk is still trying to figure out how the hospital found out about the settlement and garnished it. This was just one of many ways I got petty revenge on the Hulk," the post concluded. The comment section of the Reddit post appreciated the army vet for doing the right thing to teach his con man of a roommate an appropriate lesson.
u/Automatic-Move-5976 joked, "Thank you for your service. Apparently, Hulk is not a very wise man to pick fights with folks in bars who are adroit at finishing trouble and troublemakers.
At the very least you should help the friendly folks at The Church of Christ, LDS, the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Church of Scientology find their way to visit the Hulk and try and help him correct his sinful ways." u/lucwin2020 quipped, "I remember an article and picture in a SoCal newspaper where the paramedics were patching up some gangbanger with a gun, that tried to rob an old Asian guy. The banger got a little too close and the old guy disarmed and thrashed him. The guy was in his 70s and had been one of the bodyguards for Imelda Marcos!"
u/linecrabbing added, "Good god he got dumped by a 70 grandfather in a fistfight. What a loser! Good for you to rat him to the hospital." In another instance, a man taught a fitting lesson to a roommate who was stealing his clothes. u/DrOogieBoogie42 took to the Reddit community to share a tale about his wealthy college roommate Paul. The man found some of his pristine clothes in a laundry basket one day, dirty and reeking of alcohol. Despite confronting Paul about it, he continued to borrow the other man's clothes without his knowledge and even tore one of his jeans.
That's when the man came up with a plan. He packed all of Paul's expensive Oxford shirts into his own backpack and went to his mother's residence. He decided to tie-dye every one of Paul's white shirts to get back at him, as it would be an irreversible change. Paul's parents did not agree to buy him new shirts, so he ended up having to go to classes wearing the single t-shirt he owned and the tie-dyed shirts he had. He lost a few grades because of this but never touched his roommate's clothes again.
