Girl's silent text made Uber driver realize she was being kidnapped — his one look at the two men in the back seat changed everything

Justin Holmes, an Uber driver, risked his own safety to save two young girls from creeps

The glow of a smartphone screen in a dark Uber vehicle is usually a sign of a passenger scrolling through social media, but for one driver, Justin Holmes (@uber_after_midnight), it became a silent cry for help. Well, an Uber ride turned into a nightmare for two of his female customers when they realized they had been tricked by two older men who promised to drop them home safely. Holmes, however, stepped just in time and not only saved the innocent girls but also reported the two men, ensuring they wouldn't dare take advantage of any woman in the future. On May 31, 2026, the Uber driver shared the incident on Threads, and his post has received over 20,000 likes online.

The suspicious address

The ordeal started pretty normally, with Holmes picking up two girls in their twenties and two men in their forties from a bar. But in no time, things began to turn south. First, one of the two girls stated that she'd lost her purse, but had her phone. So, she quickly jumped out and reported it to block the misuse of her cards. Of course, this meant she could no longer pay for a cab. Hence, these men who pretended to be "nice" offered to ride them home.

However, one of the women looked a bit suspicious about the men. So, she typed her address on her phone and passed it to Holmes to confirm if that was where he was driving them. As soon as the Uber driver saw it, he realized something was wrong. "I checked and took my phone off the window mount and put it in my lap. And texted her, 'No, we are not,'" Holmes recounted. Scared, the woman requested the driver drop them off at her correct address without letting the men know. Without wasting a single second, Holmes typed the new address into his maps and started driving. However, the guys soon realized they were on the wrong route and confronted the driver. "I'm taking these girls home as you told them you would," Holmes told them, leaving them fuming.

The last straw

One of the guys got aggressive and refused to let Holmes drive the girls home. In fact, he said the girls need to pay back their favor before getting home. This was the last straw for Holmes. "That made my blood boil! I'm taking these girls home," the Uber driver told the men. The rest of the ride was quiet as the men didn't want to be kicked out. Holmes first dropped the girls off at their address and then took the guys home. "Get the hell out of my car! And make it quick. You should be ashamed of yourselves, trying to take advantage of those girls; they are half your age," he told them before dropping them.

Holmes didn't stop there

However, Holmes did not let it slide. He reported the incident to Uber, shared the recorded audio of his ride, and even attached the exchange between him and the girl. Now, he said he is awaiting the action that the company will take against these men. Nonetheless, as terrible as it is, unsafe interaction during Uber rides isn't uncommon. According to a Stacker survey of 1,000 women, 59.3% of women passengers have felt unsafe during a rideshare trip at least once. To tackle it, 72.3% of these women used the fake phone call technique or deceptive texting and acted as if they had someone waiting for them at the end of the ride. Nonetheless, what's even more concerning is that almost 35.6% of women never reported an incident despite feeling unsafe during the ride.

'Thank you for protecting them'

Meanwhile, reacting to the wholesome story, @mylaundrystinks wrote, "I don't use rideshare apps specifically for this reason, but if I did, I'd want you as my driver every time — you did a good thing." Similarly, @kparsz commented in a similar tone, saying, "You are amazing; thank you so much for taking care of them and speaking up; we need more men like you."
