Friendship transcends obstacles and can lead to remarkable outcomes, as demonstrated by athletes Katie Moon and Nina Kennedy at the recent World Athletics Championship.
Friendship goes beyond every obstacle. No one wants anything more than to overcome every limitation and enhance the bond. However, what happens when competition comes between friends? In most cases, one would overthrow another and that is the end of companionship. In other rare cases, both would conquer together and strengthen the relationship. It was exactly what happened with Katie Moon and Nina Kennedy at the World Athletics Championship recently, reports CBS News.
The incident has become a viral sensation not just because of the win but also because of the sharing of a gold medal for the first time in history. Both the athletes, Katie Moon from the USA and Nina Kennedy from Australia, participated in the women's pole vault competition and scored the highest record of 4.90 meters. Everyone knows this means a further tie-breaker to see who takes home the medal and that's what happened. However, call it destiny or just strong bonding the two couldn't go over each other's records despite the many rounds held. The situation was tense and the two countries depended on their superwoman to hoist the flag and stand at the top.
Amid the tension and hopes, something beautiful took place. With all scorers, viewers, fans and board members in confusion, friendship sparked. Kennedy looked at Moon and said, "Hey girl, maybe you want to share this?" The incredible moment turned into a triumphant echo when both the girls mutually agreed. They were now world champions, sharing the joy, the pride and the bond. Kennedy said, "And the relief on her face – and you could see it on my face – and it was mutual. And yeah, absolutely incredible to share a medal with Katie Moon. You know, we've been friends for so long, so it's super special."

Moon told the outlet, "As the competition was going, I knew we were tied, and I kept thinking, 'I don't want this to go to a jump-off." Kennedy said, "I knew I could get on the podium, but it was a miracle to get the gold. So I think a miracle happened tonight." Both the athletes said that the competition was tough and somewhere, they knew there was very little difference between them.

The medal was Moon's second consecutive one, while Kennedy herself bagged the medal, along with breaking a personal record and the Australian record as well. Moon even posted the moment on her Instagram and captioned it, "Did we just become best friends? 'Yup.' Do you want to go do karate in the garage? 'Yup.'" The moment was truly beyond anyone's imagination. To win a world record, make history and add to it all with your friend.
