These women say they're just like men — except they are better at childcare and household duties.
In a world where, unfortunately, 'forever' seems to last only for a few years, divorce has become very common in many households. When couples, especially with kids, break up, their children are forced to choose sides and shoulder the emotional baggage of the separation. In most cases, mothers usually get custody, but while many share parenting responsibilities with their ex-partners, some raise their kids independently. Often, when raised by a single parent, children grow up constantly feeling the void of the absent parent. That's why Shannon (@s__june) and Cheyanne, two single mothers and close friends, moved in together to coparent their kids.
In a video that has over 7 million views online, Shannon gives a sneak peek into her beautiful life, which she has built with her best friend, Cheyanne. From bearing household responsibilities to taking care of the kids, the two mothers have split everything right down the middle. While the video captures the duo in action, hustling together towards providing a healthy environment for their children, the overlay text reads, "Two moms who decided it was easier to coparent with each other than their ex-husbands." Explaining more about their unconventional living arrangement, Shannon joked that they are just like the men, except they are better at sharing childcare and home duties.
The now-viral video received an overwhelming response on social media, with people appreciating the women co-parenting their kids together. Some women even shared their own experiences of raising kids with their friends or siblings. For example, @r.o.p.e.s_ commented, "I was just talking to my husband about this and saw 4 moms shopping together and said, I wonder why more single moms don't just get together & rent a house & raise the kids together and normalize this." @dinoqueen67 revealed, "I literally am doing this with my friend. She got two, and I got one kid. She wanted a third, and I only wanted one, but my kid wants siblings, so crisis averted."
Meanwhile, @trappingcantaloupe shared, "I don’t even want kids, but I’d help my friends raise their babies and clean the house way before I’d let a man ruin their lives." @gingerpop123 suggested, "This is so good; maybe start a company to hook women up with other women, as we know being a single mom isolates you. So happy for you." @cristyqueen303 shared, "My couple's therapist didn't believe me when I told him about this exact same idea of life for a woman. It is like we are not progressing as humans only because we need to deal with male ones." @wildflowermorning said, "This type of arrangement should be talked about more often because it makes so much sense."
@tamarcdhg1z said, "My mom and her best friend did this for a couple of years when I was little. They were able to save money, looked after each other's children when working, got ahead, supported each other, and moved out." On the other hand, @the_blackmarvel pointed out, "As a son of a single mom, nothing can replace a father. You're meant to have both parents and perspectives from the male and female perspectives." @particular_bug commented, "I‘m wondering why not more single mothers are doing this. It‘s probably easier than doing it alone."
