As 2025 begins, couples are finding unique ways to celebrate their relationships and set priorities for the year ahead. English television presenter Jake Humphrey and his wife, Harriet Humphrey, took it a step further by turning their relationship goals into what many online found hilariously corporate-style Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The “High Performance” podcast host’s LinkedIn post detailing their ambitions quickly became fodder for laughter and mockery when reshared by social media user Aidan James (@mcandidate) on X, formerly Twitter.

In his widely circulated post, James joked about Jake’s professional tone in discussing his marriage goals, quipping that Jake “LinkedIn’ed his wife.” Humphrey’s original post framed their relationship reflection as “astounding work,” with the couple seemingly aligning their personal and parental ambitions through a business-like lens. The unusual approach left the online community in stitches, with James’ tweet alone garnering around 1.8 million views.

While some applauded the couple’s commitment to self-improvement, others couldn’t resist poking fun at how their relationship goals sounded more like a quarterly board meeting than a romantic reflection.

In the original post, Jake began by recalling his first meeting with his wife 25 years ago. However, the 46-year-old broadcaster went on to emphasize a crucial turning point in their relationship. “But this week, we decided to do something we haven’t done before,” he remarked, nearly a week after the New Year’s celebration. The UK-based couple enjoyed a “lovely” dinner as part of their alone time at the beginning of the year. “With the kids away at a sleepover, we went for dinner at a lovely local pub and aligned on our personal and parenting goals for 2025,” he said. “It’s so easy with kids, jobs, school clubs, sports fixtures, friends, and family stuff that you can fall out of alignment,” Jake continued, adding how it was the perfect moment for the couple to introspect. The TV presenter went on to say: “So, we went for some amazing tapas and asked ourselves six questions.”

The first pointer that the couple discussed was their individual failures— “Where did 2024 miss the mark for you?” Through this, the pair navigated each other’s disappointments by identifying unmet goals, challenges and missed opportunities for growth, if any. The remaining five questions were equally sharp and focused on: “Where did you feel let down by me?” “What does a great 2025 look like?” “How can I support that?” “What are the things that currently light you up?” “What are we in the habit of still doing that no longer serves you and we should drop?” Jake concluded by referring to them as really powerful questions as they set the right tone for the couple to start their new year.

“Despite being together since 1999, there was a sense that this year will be our most exciting one yet,” the broadcaster said. Quoting the veteran American columnist, Walter Winchell, Humphrey stated “He (the late news commentator) so wonderfully put it: ‘Never above you, never below you, always beside you.’” However, to many, it seemed that Jake was trying to gauge his wife’s performance at the end of the year. Among them, @Callum_Boyle_ commented, “His poor wife. She’s thinking that they’re going to have a lovely night out and here’s Jake Humphrey pointing out which 2024 KPIs she’s failed to meet.” “Notice he didn’t quite dare ask her where she saw herself in 5 years,” @Gastrofund joked. “I'm sorry, Jake, that sounds like management speak to me and I know you hate that,” @ourrachblogs sympathized.
