Fox News presenter Jesse Watters sparked debate during his Thursday night Primetime show when he ridiculed Doug Emhoff, husband of former Vice President Kamala Harris, for accompanying his wife on a grocery shopping trip. Watters asked his audience, “What kind of husband goes grocery shopping with his wife?” The comment came during a segment where Watters criticized Harris for her perceived low profile and a recent blog launch. “Kamala says she wasn’t going to go quietly, but she’s been as quiet as a mime,” Watters said, as per the Daily Beast.

“Kamala just launched a blog though, and we clicked on it and she wants our email address so she can ask us for money.” Watters then showed images of Harris and Emhoff shopping at 99 Ranch Market, an Asian grocery store in Westwood, California, a scene covered by the New York Post. “And she needs it because grocery prices are ridiculous. She just found out about inflation,” Watters sarcastically said, before adding, “The New York Post caught her grocery shopping with Dougie Fresh.” The statement quickly caught attention on social media, as it was reshared by @Acyn on X.

People pointed out that grocery shopping together is something plenty of couples do and questioned why such an ordinary activity was being ridiculed. @karinmiddle016 said, "Apparently, @JesseBWatters isn't aware many chefs are male and are also husbands. Thus, go to grocery stores and markets to shop and may be accompanied by a wife or partner as they also enjoy cooking at home." @ram41662 said, "Is he kidding? Of course, I go grocery shopping. I'm very picky about the quality of my food, which is why I'll never use the 'pick up' option, and I know what and where to buy the best product at the lowest price. My wife? Not so much."

Many shared how their husbands regularly go grocery shopping with them. @Stonefacechild8 commented, "My husband does the majority of grocery shopping and cooking. I sometimes accompany him grocery shopping." @toldyaso2022 chimed in, "My husband and I always go together as a 'date.' We talk, joke, and shop together. He’s literally my best friend, and we enjoy doing even errands like grocery shopping together. @1611Willaim remarked, "Grocery shopping with one's wife can be boring, or it can actually be fun — just like so many areas of married life. If Watters were twice as clever as he is, he'd still be half as clever as he thinks he is. He and his buddy Gutfeld have gotten the self-satisfied smirk down to an art form."

However, some supported the statement. @mail_american said, "It’s ODD— usually one or the other goes, but not BOTH." @EverydayFinance added, "We know some guys that ship with their wives so they can monitor and control every dollar that gets spent. Must be soul-sucking, but it’s more than one couple we know where this is the case." @KareemBaldwin1 criticized Harris and Emhoff, saying, "Remember, anything they’re doing together is just for publicity. No one believes they go grocery shopping at all, let alone together. She’s the former Vice President, so her leaving the house is a process. The first female Vice President makes her basically the most recognized Vice President ever."
