She approached the cops to get a legitimate answer.

Being a woman is hard on so many different levels. They are always on a battlefield, fighting for their rights while protecting themselves from creepy men who think they can intimidate them easily. While women's safety is a global concern, Dubai seems to have taken some steps to ensure that women feel secure, sheltered, and comfortable at all times. Dannie Wurtz (@danniewurtz), a woman from the USA, was on JBR beach in Dubai when she saw the cops herding several people out of the area. Curious, Wurtz confronted a police officer, and the reason behind the initiative left her wishing America had this rule, too. She posted the video on Instagram on November 30.

It was already sunset when Wurtz noticed the cops driving away people from the beach. At first, she thought the UAE city had a curfew after sunset, but then she realized the cops were only concerned about men leaving the beach. Wurtz went up to an on-duty office and asked him about it, only to be blown away by the response. He said, "We are only taking men off the beach because men cause problems." The cop explained that the men who come with their wives or families are allowed to stay, while others are asked to vacate the beach. "This is family and women time on the beach," the cop added. Wurtz was obviously impressed and openly expressed her admiration for the UAE. "People are so kind and courteous and actually, incredibly respectful to women," she confessed.
It's sad how, despite awareness, women still feel unsafe living in a world mostly dominated by men. In fact, women experience harassment not only in isolated settings but also in daylight and in public spaces. A survey of over 3,300 Americans over age 18 conducted by NORC in 2024 found that 82% of women have experienced sexual harassment or assault at least once in their lifetime. What's more surprising is that amongst them, 73% reported experiencing it in public spaces.
Meanwhile, reacting to Wurtz's take on Dubai and its oh-so-special rule for women, @b16rdp commented, "Thank you for your wonderful video. I have only been here for 14 years, and I still love it. I would not change it for the world. It is a wonderful and balanced place to live and work. The leaders of the UAE are among the best in the world, and I cherish every day I am able to spend here." @castlejdc said, "I absolutely love this! It shows the truth about such a beautiful place!"

Similarly, @natasha_qureshee confessed, "This is why I always and always travel to Dubai and Dubai only because I feel safe visiting there alone — no family, no friends, just me." @itsjustshrutii recalled, "In my 24 years there, no men would dare to look at a woman on the beach with dirty eyes; you won't even see them, but surtas (police) are always present and are protecting the women." @realgaganduggal commented, "Yes, this is how women and families should feel in a country while not being policed on what to wear and what not to wear."
