Tour leader abandons 8 high school students in France, 1,000 miles from home, for being too noisy. Then parents had to arrange another bus home

On almost every student trip, there comes a point where the adults in charge reach their limit and threaten to cancel everything. It is usually just an empty scare tactic to quiet down rowdy teenagers. Recently, however, that threat became a harsh reality. A group of Slovakian high schoolers was returning home from a trip to the United Kingdom. It was then, near the French-German border, that their tour leader finally had enough after six students allegedly banged on hotel doors all night. Instead of issuing another warning, she decided the six students would not continue the journey home on the bus. Two other students reportedly chose to stay behind with them in solidarity, along with a teacher. What unfolded next was pure chaos, as reported by tnlive.sk on September 16, 2026.

Chaos in the hallway

The trouble started late at night during a stopover near the French-German border. According to the organizer, six students were running through the hotel corridor late at night and “constantly banging on all the doors in the hallway.” She said several guests complained and threatened to call the police. So, naturally, after some time, they stepped outside to confront the rowdy teenagers. "Several guests opened doors and threatened the police," the organizer revealed. She also alleged that the students laughed when warned their behavior grade could be lowered.  

The bluff departure

By the following morning, the tour leader decided she had witnessed enough insolence and made the drastic call to leave the offenders behind. However, two students refused to abandon their classmates, choosing to step off the coach alongside an accompanying school teacher. At first, none of them took the punishment seriously. "When the bus left, they thought they were joking," Klaudia Uhor, the mother of a high school student, said. The teens assumed the driver was simply circling the block to give them a scare. 

The harsh reality sets in

As the minutes passed, the students began to realize the bus was not coming back. "After half an hour, they realized, and the teacher also checked, that they would not be coming back for them at all. That's when it became a reality. So the second feeling that came was shock," Uhor further noted. The eight teenagers, aged 15 to 17, were now left in France with one teacher while the rest of the group continued home. With no way back, the stranded teacher and pupils had to contact their families for immediate help.

The costly way home

The parents then had to arrange and pay for replacement transportation. Reports say the group traveled through Frankfurt and Vienna before a bus arranged by the parents finally brought them home. The parents later filed a criminal complaint over the incident, while the school began looking into both the students' alleged behavior and how the situation was handled. For now, everything remains under investigation. However, the organizer later reportedly acknowledged that she may have judged the situation too harshly, while continuing to stand by her account of the students' behavior.

The teachers' perspective

That being said, while what this teacher did was drastic, many U.S. public school teachers feel that the current discipline measures are quite lenient. According to a Pew Research survey, 66% of teachers feel the measures are very or somewhat mild. This includes 27% of educators who believe the measures are very mild. Additionally, 67% said teachers don't have enough influence over discipline practices at their school. At the same time, 49% of teachers also believe that the behavior of their students is fair or poor. 

Can't help but find humor 

As for the people, they couldn't help but laugh at the entire incident. They took to a Reddit post about the incident by u/TheSimon1. u/Opulon_Nelva commented, "Seriousness of the issue aside, I can't help but giggle as a French person myself, about the imaginary scenario where you would get children to behave 'or else you'll be stranded in FRANCE.'" Meanwhile, u/ChefCurryYumTum noted, "I don't care about the behavior; if you are in charge of kids, you need to take care of them."
