Ashton shared that her conversations with Hiddleston about his experiences in the franchise were empowering and insightful.
Unlike his onscreen character Loki who neither gives advice nor takes any seriously, Tom Hiddleston did have some advice to offer to his fiancée Zawe Ashton about joining Marvel. It is natural to want some support and suggestions from a good partner and the Hiddleston proves to be the same. The 38-year-old "Marvels" actress, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, revealed how she felt speaking with her Marvel-veteran beau before her own appearance as a villain in "The Marvels." She shared that her casting led to "some incredible conversations" with the 42-year-old. He told her "about his experience being part of this franchise for over a decade."
"One of the main takeaways from our conversations was, 'What you put into Marvel, you get back,'" the actress shared. "'If you go into this with an open heart and a great work ethic and just want to provide an amazing experience for the fans, you'll have an amazing experience on those sets.'"
"He really empowered me in that way," Ashton added. Hiddleston played the part of Thor's trickster brother, Loki beginning with 2011's "Thor." He also stars in "Loki," a Disney+ series that is getting a second season. While talking about his character, he told Los Angeles Times, "I love playing Loki, have loved playing him every time. In every story, there’s been a different iteration, a different director, a different spin on the ball, if you like." In response to Hiddleston's "practical advice" prior to filming The Marvels, Ashton told EW, "Make sure you have enough zippers to go to the bathroom in your costume. Which is very good advice, I realize now."
In "The Marvels," Ashton plays Dar-Benn, a Kree leader fighting to restore her home after a long civil war. (This is a new, expanded version of the character, who originally appeared as a man and has a minor role in the comics.) Ashton trained for weeks to master Dar-Benn's imposing war hammer, and in the film, she faces off against Larson's Captain Marvel, Parris' Monica Rambeau, and Vellani's Ms. Marvel. "The Marvels" will be released in theaters on November 10th. "It's this all-female sci-fi extravaganza, with a woman on the other side of the camera," Ashton adds. "I felt very moved, actually, being involved in it. It's not an environment you're often in — a huge-budget movie with all these badass women and Samuel L. Jackson. That just doesn't happen."
