Hollywood's nicest guy, Tom Hanks, revealed on Wednesday that he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have tested positive for the coronavirus. The couple is currently in Australia where the Hanks was set to film a Warner Bros movie about the life of Elvis Presley. In a statement posted to Instagram, the Academy Award-winning actor said that they got tested after experiencing symptoms like tiredness, body aches, chills, and slight fevers. Although we knew it was just a matter of time before someone famous in the entertainment industry tested positive for the virus, did it have to be Tom-fricking-Hanks?!
Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia. We felt a bit tired, like we had colds, and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for the Coronavirus and were found to be positive, Hanks captioned a photograph of a lone medical glove in a hazardous waste container. Well, now. What to do next? The Medical Officials have protocols that must be followed. We Hanks’ will be tested, observed, and isolated for as long as public health and safety requires. Not much more to it than a one-day-at-a-time approach, no?
We’ll keep the world posted and updated. Take care of yourselves, the 63-year-old concluded. In a statement to Deadline, Warner Bros. revealed that it was notified that someone in the production had been diagnosed with coronavirus. The studio added that the individual is receiving treatment and that "we are working closely with the appropriate Australian health agencies to identify and contact anyone who may have come in direct contact with the individual. The health and safety of our company members is always our top priority, and we are taking precautions to protect everyone who works on our productions around the world. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 is currently receiving treatment."

According to The Guardian, early on Thursday morning, the cast and crew attached to the untitled Elvis Presley movie received an email instructing them to stay away from the set. Annastacia Palaszczuk, the premier of Queensland, said on Thursday that health officials would conduct contact tracing to identify everyone who's been in close contact with Hanks and Wilson. "People who have come in close contact with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson will now need to self isolate and quarantine," she said.

Meanwhile, there are concerns about fans having come in contact with the actor. Hanks, who is famously one of the most approachable celebs ever, is said to have regularly posed for photos with fans at Coolangatta Beach on the Gold Coast and a cafe near Mount Warning on the New South Wales far north coast. However, Palaszczuk stated that she did not believe a selfie would constitute close contact. "Tom has been having a wonderful time on the Gold Coast and we are so lucky to have Tom in Queensland," she said.

"But what it is, is people who have come in very close contact with him in recent days [our] experts will now work very closely with him with Baz [Luhrmann] and all the cast the crew and then they will isolate those people who have been in that close proximity. From what the chief health officer has told me it’s over 15 minutes of being in very close contact, so a selfie wouldn’t count as that," Palaszczuk continued, adding that Hanks and Wilson would receive "the best treatment in our hospital." The premier assured that she is "very confident with the physicians that we have that will be treating Tom and his wife and like I said we wish them all the very best for a speedy recovery. I know the thoughts of Queenslanders and all Australians are with Tom and Rita during this time."

Are we in a movie?
Chet Hanks, the couple’s son, also confirmed the news in an Instagram video. "What’s up everyone, um, yeah it’s true my parents got coronavirus. Crazy. I just got off the phone with them, they both are fine, they’re not even that sick, they’re not worried about it, they’re not tripping, but they’re going through the necessary health precautions obviously," he said. "I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about, I appreciate everyone’s concern and the well wishes but I think it’s all going to be alright." We hope so too, Chet.
