He finally confronted the boss scammer, leading to a surprising outcome.
In today's fast-paced world, staying focused is more difficult than ever before. Now, imagine this: With so many distractions around, you somehow manage to take out time, diving into the most crucial tasks. However, just as you're making some progress, your phone buzzes with a painfully familiar interruption — another spam call. A simple, unwanted call quickly becomes a major disruption to your mood and concentration, thereby significantly affecting your productivity. Similarly, frustrated with such constant robocalls, a man who goes by u/boopinmybop on Reddit pulled an epic Uno Reverse on his spammer.
The author shared that he used to get 10-15 spam calls every single day from a US-based location, admitting that he was being bothered constantly by these cold calls, which strategically found him during important work meetings and personal moments. "Every single time, the same voicemail message plays: 'This is Jenifer from the senior underwriting team calling about your loan," he revealed. Coincidentally, the man stumbled upon a Reddit post where someone claimed that calling the scammers back would solve the problem. "So I decided, what the heck, let me see if this works. I called, put myself on mute, and hung up after 5-10 seconds of them talking. I did this exactly 266 times in 35 minutes," the man shared.
After repeatedly dialing the same number, he cycled through 20-30 employees, claiming to be from at least three companies. After nearly 150 calls, the man noticed that the scammers began hanging up immediately upon answering the calls. I knew I was getting to them," the man shared. Finally, after 260 calls, the man reached what he referred to as the "final f****** boss" of the whole scam operation. "In a deep, mob boss-type voice, I hear, and I kid you not, 'Mr. Boop, you’ve got to stop with these spam calls. I mean, seriously, you've got to have something better to do with your time,'" the man revealed. As expected, after that incident, he never got those scam calls again.
Meanwhile, u/thebigbluepit commented, "The best part is you likely cost them HUNDREDS, if not THOUSANDS. These scam call centers often pay a third party to route calls to their call center, and they pay per call routed to them. That’s likely why they were so angry because you cost them money." u/rationaldb8 revealed, "When I get a spam call, I answer, 'Nevada Office of the Attorney General.' They usually hang up and don’t call back. If they persist, I ask them if they know they’ve called the state attorney general, and then I ask them a bunch of interrogatory questions until they hang up." u/mama_d63 revealed, "My friend likes to have fun with the scammers. She'll string them along, then start asking THEM for money for various reasons."
u/px1azzz shared, "I did this once. I got the guy to start crying. I called him so much, he was unable to get any outbound calls, and he stopped making any money. He started crying, saying he had a family to feed. I didn't stop. I yelled obscenities at him and told him that he should get a constructive job that helps society instead of f****** people over." On the other hand, u/pewpewwopwop commented, "This truly does work. I didn’t call mine back 260 times, but I was at it for maybe an hour. I kept calling them and shaking a can of coins loudly. Eventually, they got mad enough to start disconnecting my call as soon as it went through. I never got called by them again."
