People can say and make up all sorts of things during the 'getting to know each other' phase. Jack Selby, the host of the Ice Coffee Hour Podcast (@icedcoffeehour), took to Instagram on October 19, 2023, to talk about a woman he met on Tinder. They had been on three dates in just four days. Before it got serious, Selby's friend Graham checked her Instagram and found a photo of her with a man. Selby asked her about it, and she said it was an ex-boyfriend. Not satisfied, Graham dug some more. Both men were stunned by what they discovered. The post had 348,800 likes and 4,700 comments.

Inactive boyfriend

Jack Selby's relationship with the girl was not serious yet. They had only been on three dates, but Graham decided to look into the situation. He went on her Instagram and found a photo of her with another man. He clicked on the guy's profile and noticed he had her name in his bio next to a heart emoji. Selby FaceTimed the girl and asked her who the man was. She assured him it was an ex-boyfriend. He was inactive on social media, and that was why her name was still in his bio.

Bro code

Graham was not happy with the answer and DMed the guy. Selby spoke to him and mentioned he went on a date with the girl, and asked, "What's the deal with you and her?" The man on the other end immediately became angry and said, "We've been dating for two years. I bought her a car. I gave her thousands of dollars. We have been together in a loving relationship." He even sent them a photo of his wall covered in Polaroid photos of him and her to prove his relationship. He ended the call with, "Thank you so much. This restores my faith in humanity," and called them his guardian angels.

Tattletale

Way too many people are dishonest about their relationship status, and a survey from Healthy Framework found that 54.7% of U.S. adults admit to lying on their online dating profiles. The survey also found that 6.8% of respondents aged 18 to 24 lied about their relationship status on their dating profile. Among those aged 25 to 34, 15.2% admitted to doing the same, while 12.8% of respondents aged 35 to 44 also confessed to misrepresenting their relationship status. People between the ages of 45 and 54 were the least likely to do so, at just 6.4%.

Another poll by Newsweek found that 73% of Gen X adults would tell a friend or family member if they knew their partner was cheating, while 67% of Millennials would do the same. In this case, the girl lied about being single, and Selby and Graham reached out to her ex-boyfriend, inadvertently alerting him to the possibility that she was seeing someone else.

Expected on Tinder

The comment section was a mix of opinions. Some people called the boyfriend a 'simp' for buying her a car, while others criticized her for allegedly misleading both men. A lot of people also pointed out the hypocrisy. @iigousiyaii commented, "Bro code? And we are called stalkers? Oh my God, men and their hypocrisy." @_._twirlingpages_._ added, "But will you go and tell your bro's girlfriend that he's cheating on her?"
