He posted a video tagging the NYC Mayor about a pothole. When he returned from work, it was fixed

"Ask, and you shall receive" perfectly sums up one man's plea for help from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. On July 9, 2026, a man who goes by @swiperdm on TikTok was on his way to work when he noticed two potholes on the road. Shocked, he pulled out his phone and recorded a lighthearted video, asking Mamdani to help. And surprisingly, even before the day ended, the man noticed the potholes had been filled. His video has received 34,700 views on his page. It was also reshared on X by Fifty Shades of Whey (@davenewworld_2), where it garnered over 2 million views.

Mayor steps in

The content creator did not expect that his video, in which he had tagged Mamdani, would be taken seriously. However, by the time he got home, he was shocked to see something unexpected. The man recorded another video, a few hours after the first, and showed that the two potholes had been covered. "I see how the world works, bro. You see how in the morning I said there were two potholes, right? Look what happened after I come back from work," he said, completely blown away.  Moreover, the man applauded Mamdani for his quick response, saying, "Mamdani, I did not know you were like that... that quick. We love you."

Back to square one

Almost a month later, on August 5, the man returned to TikTok to talk about how quickly Mamdani responded to his videos and fixed the potholes. Unfortunately, by then, another pothole had appeared in the previously fixed spot. He said, "Why is it like this again? Mamdani, the job is not done... This is that big potato stuff," requesting the mayor to fix it one more time. At the time of writing, the video was posted just 9 hours ago. Mamdani has yet to respond.

Keeping his promises

Ever since Mamdani took the reins, he has focused on improving life for New Yorkers. In fact, one of the remarkable things he achieved in only 100 days of being mayor was pledging universal childcare for New Yorkers, as reported by the BBC. In February, during the harsh blizzards, he also freed up hotel rooms and helped 1,400 people into shelters. Moreover, Mamdani has made progress on the city's housing issues, with a $22 billion investment over the next five years to build and preserve homes, Vital City revealed. In fact, he once told the crowd who gathered at the Knockdown Center on April 12, "Nothing is too big for New York City to take on. And over the past 14 weeks, we have proved that there is no task too small either." And it's safe to say he has been living up to that promise ever since.

Meanwhile, while some people were surprised at how quickly the pothole appeared again, others praised Mamdani for stepping in. For instance, @pickleric6 added, "No way again? Let’s get this to the Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, job not done." @wildsatsang said, "Mamdani is the first mayor ACTUALLY for the people."
